Little Missy
I just got the second 200 Starline cases for the .40-65 CPA I call little Missy and I went to the range and 100 of the new cases to fit the chamber. I loaded these with a full case to the mouth using some old 2001 regular 1F Goex to do this job and man I forgot just how dirty this powder was. Comparing the old Goex 1F to what I been seeing with the 2F OE is unreal, but I will say that using a blow tube with a very hot barrel after many rounds fired it hydrated well and I had no problem chambering a tight bullet.
The good news........I shot 5 rounds before starting blowing out cases with good rounds using cases that have been shot several times loaded with 58 grains of 2F OE and a 427 gr 1.460" long .494" diameter Elliptical from a custom mould I had Jim at Buff Arms make that shot very well. I put the first shot on a swinger at 200 yards and 5 on paper sitting next to the swinger. Two shots where low and left 1" apart side by side and a 2 MOA sight change up and right three shots 1 3/8" two cut 3/8" almost in the same hole.
I'm very impressed with the way this rifle is showing promise so far.

Hanz welcome.

I just love it when things come together. This rifle project started off slow getting a reamer made that took longer then getting the rifle but I made the reamer design right and it's starting to show that it works.

This silhouette venture I started shooting last fall to this point is like diving off a bank not knowing what's below the surface of the water Smile

Thanks for the welcome.

I'm about to dive off that bank with you. I attended a BPCR Silhouette match one month ago and then ordered a CPA 44 1/2.

What's different about your reamer?

RE: Little Missy
Hanz I only shoot a PP bullet so I designed the reamer to just except a bore diameter PP bullet. The case neck is .424" allowing just enough room to seat a bullet 1-1/2 thousands over bore diameter in the case then a 5 degree 2-1/2 degree compound chamber end instead of the 45 degree normally used and the base diameter is reduced for the dimensions the Starline brass uses so the bulge ahead of the rim does not show up after several shots fired.
A normal chamber for GG bullets have a neck diameter of .434 to .436" plus/minus a little into a 45 degree plus some use a lot of freebore.
If I run out of ammo I'm done I cant use someone else's but they can use mine in their rifle Smile

RE: Little Missy
To Missy, will done from Lucy Smile Hi Kurt Oh master this is Grasshopper M2 with the factory Pedersoli '74 in 40-65. Measurements of this chamber readily confirm it is the larger type suitable to Greasers we are attempting to use (410655). So far these Starline (long) brass have been used in fire formed condition. Due to dimensions you quoted a loaded round with 0.410" sized slug seats by thumb pressure. With thin necked brass I may be spinning wheels to get best accuracy. Albeit the advice on using something other than GOEX is seconded also but currently local supply is limited to GOEX and 2F is employed. Obviously I enjoy adversity as shown by leap into dark side (Geezer option;-) In attempt to iron out down range performance a Lyman Neck sizing die was acquired. It suits 40-65 & 40-70SS cases. I just ran a batch of Starline brass and the outside neck diameter is now 0.428" and I.D. is 0.408" with Lyman M-2, 0.408 stem. I like that the expansion area near the case heads will not be worked over as with FL die. A loaded round from lot where just fired cases were used measures 0.438" about 1/4 inch below case mouth. Am I correct in guessing some of verticals down range might be coming from lack of bullet retention? These rounds when chambered do seat the first bullet driving band into lands. I heartily commend you for creating exacting rifle chamber specs and PP bullet to suit. Sure wish a cost effective source for regular "thick walled" brass of long length existed. Indeed I have virgin Starline 45-70 brass in stock for other rifles. But reforming 200 cases would be much more work than dialing up supplier Shy Thanks for the informative examples and best to Missy

OH Grasshopper M-2 don't cut the .40-65 Peders short I know two fellers that have them in the .40-65 and they sure like the way they shoot.
I have reamers I had made for 44's, .45's and the .40 and all have worked out well for me. To me it is worth getting a reamer made for my intended use and they all turned out better then I was hoping for. Yes they are rifle specific as far as cases not being interchangeable between rifles of the same caliber, you have to keep the cases separate and don't mix them or you might have to use a cleaning rod when your on line because a case might be to large fired from the other same caliber rifle.
It's kinda nice when all you have to do is shoot clean the brass reprime stuff in the powder and twist a patched bullet in the case. No sizing, crimping, no annealing.

RE: Little Missy
Up hill climb not withstanding as you know these May- December Girly relationships (rifle;-) can be phun Big Grin I'm committed to the wonderful Peder '74 in 40-65. Fortunately it is my one rifle in this caliber. After many years in Mechanical Engineering the best results were usually attained when one let the machinery indicate what it needed to run. I know there are many more variants to try. That's why we missed Alma due to R&D. Hopefully taking the present 200 pieces of brass and running genuine ladder tests and shifting loads will help settle groups to minute of chicken @ 500 meters.
