First off, I want to thank everyone that helped me along the way. Stephen, who made me that awesome sight and helped me with the load. Orville and Redneck who helped me figure out this Sharps black powder addiction, and Dave who hunts in south Texas also and shares experiences. I took my first buck with my Sharps 45-90 several years ago. Last year I digressed. I was so worried about killing a big deer, that I added a modern scope to my rife. It worked great, and I killed a nice buck but something was just not right about it. You guys were nice about it, and even though many didn't approve, they only offered congrats. But in the off season I read alot about the old Buffalo runners, and decided I wanted to do it right this year. I learned how to cast my own bullets, and did my best to cast a replica of the 473 PP bullet. With the help of you guys, I developed my traditional load. A 480g PP pure lead bullet from the Sharps adjustable mould over 100g of Swiss 1F. My 63 year old eyesight is still not great, but with Stephen's front sight and a Lyman tang sight I was able to keep my groups into 4" @100 yards. I remember last year on one of my posts where I was Talking about needing the scope because I couldn't see the irons, someone posted "just get closer". I realized that was exactly what I needed to do. I knew the area this deer like to hang out, but he was never seen in daylight. I knew my only chance would be during the rut, when his mind would be on chasing does. That happened this morning. I caught him pushing a doe just after daylight, and was able to make a good shot at 90 yards. I have been hunting Whitetail for 50 years, and this has to be the most fullfilling buck i've ever taken. I'll never go back to modern rifles! Sorry for the long post, but wanted to thank everyone for the help. Sites like this, and people like you guys, really help newcomers to our sport. Another special thing about this was that my 10 year old grandson helped me cast the bullets and load the cartridges. Now I need to get him shooting my Sharps! Take care all!

These are the kind of hunts I like to read. Very good and tnx for posting your experience.
Yes on Stephens Heartfort front sight. He made one for my .44-77 Heartfort and I put down two Bisons using it. That bronze just stands out on the black hair or in the shadows. If you need it a little brighter just rub your thumb on it a couple times and it looks like you turned on a light.

Great to see. Well done. Stephen made a front sight for me as well and it just 'looks the business' and performs as good as it looks.
