Scope for BPCR .22 - Fogman01 - 01-13-2018
I bought a Win 1885 low wall .22LR for BPCR shooting (not an original). I want to put a scope on it. I am looking at MVA and DZ Arms. MVA is a 5x and DZ is a 8x. It looks like the DZ is marked better for reading the numbers on the posts and being able to repeat the setting for the different ranges. I shoot regular BPCR silhouette with vernier sights so I don't have a feel yet for what would be best for the .22 course of fire. Both my wife and I will be shooting this rifle and simple is better. Is 8x too much magnification for BPCR? Is the price difference worth it?

FWIW, I've had both scopes, sold the DZ.
The MVA B5 gives plenty of magnification for any bpcr shooting, and the #2 mounts are just as easy to read as the DZ, they just don't allow the amount of elevation adjustment, which is a mute point in silhouette anyway.

I have the DZ and the MVA B5. I like both scopes and the #2 mount is repeatable like the DZ is. For silhouette I used the DZ last year and it does fine but the 8X seemed to be a little to much for the chicken line, the field of view was to small. I shot a bunch of chickens out of sequence even on the wrong bank once so I ordered the B-5 with the center mill dot because the centerless cross hair on my MVA 3000 series is to fine for me to see on dark targets in low light so I ordered the center dot but I found working up loads the dot covers to much target
but I have not used it for silhouettes yet so This is something I have to see if it will do what I hope it will. I called MVA and asked if I could use the 3000 scope reticle barrel in the B5 but they are not the same and they advised that I sent the scope back to change out the barrel in the B5 because it is a little more involved changing it.
I will wait till the match season opens and give the dot a try if it is a problem I will take it to MVA and let them change it when I get to the Q. I wish the hairs were like the DZ scope, a little heavier at low power.
So much for loosing the eyes.

These are good inputs. I have a full length MVA scope with the vernier scale for my Shiloh 45-70 that I shoot regular BPCR silhouette with sometimes. So i'm not familiar with the Unertl style of adjusting. The 6x on my MVA is plenty for the rams. I was wondering about the chickens with 8x. It seemed like 8x at 50 yds would be overkill. I was concerned the the adjustments would be harder to understand with the markings on the MVA but you both seem to think that is not a big deal. I am leaning toward the MVA - I would not be putting the scope on any other rifle anyway- just the 1885 .22.

We found the 8x of the DZ a bit much for the offhand targets, I think it would be a good option for creedmoor shooting.
