Bill I use the .45-2.6 Starline cases just reduced to .44 No trimming except making them uniform in length. Now this is for the .44-100 Rem St. not the .44-100 BN. It take the .44 basic that is a larger diameter at the base.

Now that's what I'm looking for. My.44/70 in the rolling block shows great promise ,but the neck is too short to use the bullet that came with it so I got a 505 BACO money with the first 4 bands reduced so I could seat it out with 76 grains of Swiss . Got first with it at a buffalo match last weekend so Maybe it's going to work.
Have to try it some more at the ram line
Also just got my Shiloh back from Steve Rhoades with a 40/82 silhouette chamber in it and am making brass and firefoming them, it looks sweet too.

Bill,
Some rollers need the top of the hammer modified for the longer 100 round to slide in. I did that to the 45-90, just to let the bullets seat longer.

Several variations of the .44-100 caliber. I shoot the Ballard version in a #7 Long range rifle. The .44-100 Ballard is 2.88" long, and the .45-110 Sharps is close, but about .008" smaller rim. Works, but if there's any wear it can slip past the extractor. I ended up just going with RMC brass.

Here are my two straight wall .44's. I actually like the .44-75 better then the .44-90-100 Rem. At years end I will get another barrel made for the .44-75 Ballard. It will be a #2.5 or a #3 weight with a 1/16 ROT for silhouettes for windy days.

Old Jim, if memory serves me correct the 44-100 RS was developed by Remington as a long range target cartridge and chambered in the Hepburn. The Hepburn was designed by L.L. Hepburn as a target rifle and the 44-100 for the same purpose. A later cartridge was also developed by Remington the 44-90 RS. I have rifles chambered for both.
I simply full length size the 45-100 case down to .44 makes the 44-100 case and full length sizing the 45-90 case down to .44 makes the 44-90 case. Best to anneal then full length size, then fire form with corn meal and then trim to length before the full charges are loaded.
