New here and looking for advise - Longcarbine - 03-19-2017

Howdy all! New guy here from Missouri and looking for a little advice. I am about to purchase a Uberti 1885 High Wall Sporter model with a 32" barrel in .45-70 and intend to put on a globe front sight and either a Lyman style peep sight or a vernier style sight on the rear. Which would you recommend for this rifle. I also have a Browning 1885 High Wall which I would also like to add such a rear sight to but the Brownings do not have a metal tang on which to mount one, is it feasible to drill and mount it to the wood stock at the wrist. Any advice is much appreciated.

The type of sight you put on will depend on what kind of shooting you want to do. If its just hunting the lyman style will work just fine. If you want to do some longer range work then a vernier site will be much better.
As to the Browning, you can inlet the stock for a piece of steel that is drilled and taped to attach a tang sight. Epoxy it in with a good quality glass bedding compound and it should work just fine.

Welcome aboard. This sport keeps rolling along, as some shooters retire and new ones take up the cause. Visit the local shooting complex, and visit with other BPCR shooters there. Ask questions, ask more questions, etc. Ther'll be mistakes made along the way, you're not the first, won't be the last, and before long you'll be advising others about the sport! It's fun, enjoy the black powder way!
All the best,

Jim

On your Uberti, get ahold of Mechanical Accuracy and get the full set of sights from Steve Baldwin.
