I got out with my 45-70 Shiloh yesterday and ran a bunch of loads (greasers and paper patched) All shot very well. One load with a BACO 535 grain Money bullet (weighed in at 427 grains) patched diameter at 4505, 100% cotton paper, with 78 grains of OE 1.5 a .060 poly wad minimum compression shot exceptionally well. 200 yards on the SR target: 2 3/8 horizontal X 1 1/4 vertical. Wiped between shots with 1 damp and 1 dry using the NAPA/ distilled water mix of 1/7 parts. They just eased in with a bit of thumb pressure for a very good fit on a clean and dry chamber. My load using Swiss 1.5 is 80 grains. When they weather improves I'll get some chronograph data with these two loads. Both powders work great with the bullet seated .140 into the neck sized case. I used a little taper crimp to hold the bullet. It would turn but not move forward when tuned upside down. Not a hunting set up but works well on the target line. Nice to have a bullet working well with 2 powders!

Nice to know the load will be reliable. This is the load I ran at the Wisconsin Rapids steel match at the end of last year. I'll be using this load a whole bunch this year both on steel and mid range and long range paper matches. It shoots as good as I can see and is repeatable! Should probably stop playing around and just pick 1 greaser and 1 paper patched load and just get more trigger time. But it is fun working up loads and seeing just how well these rifles can perform when fed right!

That's the big problem. If you settle on a greaser load, then you'll always have in the back of your mind what if I run patched, and then it works just as bad on you the other way around.

The weight of 427 grains, is that a typo?

Eric anytime you shoot a 1-1/4" vertical group @ 200 that will work very good. The 2-3/8 HZ is good. I never worry to much about the horizontal when the vertical is one inch or a little more. That is just fat fingering or a breeze.
My good groups like that are getting farther and fewer in between.

I figured it was, but usually when I assume, I'm wrong, especially in this game. Very good group, btw.
