Buffalo Shoot - Hiwall55 - 10-17-2015

Just got home from Milan,Il Buffalo shoot. Got first place . WAHOO. Had an excellent time at a great shoot. Great bunch of people.

RE: Buffalo Shoot - Kurt - 10-17-2015

Bill tell us about it. What is the format and how many shots fired at what distance.

I hope I heal for the midrange coming up. I got a little buggered up on our home range last Tuesday. I had a heavy top heavy swinger fall on my leg pinning me down for a spell till a couple guys picked it up high enough so I could pull my leg out from under it. I jammed my hip and spine enough that I cant get around for a spell. X-rays showed no broken parts but it straightened the lower back natural curve and it's giving me fits.

Dang I'm sorry to hear that. Hope you mend up fast.
They got 33 Buffaloes from years ago when they shot at Ackley,Iowa. They set them up from the other side of the road at the 600 yard range and we shoot from the 300 yard berm. 3banks of 11 buffalo from175 to about260-270 yards, then we make up teams and shoot 11 shots in 6 minutes for score. No range finders and all guess work on sight settings. The buffs are small to real large, about 80 pounds. Any way me and my shooting buddy shot this May and I got first and we shot today and I got first and Roger got second , both with 30 knock downs , but I had 2hits and Roger got 1 hit but not knock down, so I won again. Had a great day. Now duck hunting for the next 3 months .

RE: Buffalo Shoot - J.B. - 10-18-2015

Well done Hiwall. Steel matches can be a lot of fun.

Kurt... sorry to hear of your 'misadventure' and it sounds pretty painful. Hope you mend well and soon.

Gavin.

I shot at Ackley and it sounds like the same format they used. That was a fun shoot and good practice.

The healing is a little slower then I want. It hurts more when I laugh Smile It cold have been worse when that 300# 1" steel framed swinger hit me just below the knee and stripped the hide off to the top of the shoe when it knocked me over. When I first heard that loud pop I thought it was my leg.

This will give me some time to reload for the Milan midrange upcoming match.

Kurt.....you gotta watch out for OLD FOLKS!

GRAVITY....can sometimes cause one trouble!!

Wash your longjohns! You'll need them soon!!

RE: Buffalo Shoot - Hiwall55 - 10-18-2015

Kurt the Buffalo shoot at Milan was a fun shoot. I spotted for every one on our team and we had 4 out of 5 top shooters in our group, my shooting partner spotted for me. Hope you take it easy this week and mend up for mid-range this weekend.

RE: Buffalo Shoot - Kurt - 10-18-2015

Yup Rick, the gravity is getting stronger as time builds up Smile

Bill
Did you use barrel sights shooting that shot? 200 to 300 yards would be easy to hold over or under for those critters.
At Ackley those targets where up on a hill side spread out all over the place and the collar bone took a beating when I could still shoot prone. But it sure was a fun shoot. The way they shot you needed to shoot dirty to get all shots off in time.
