1886 Winchester - Wincacher - 10-22-2014 SEAR for Single Set Trigger. I recently acquired an 1886 rifle made in 1888 with a Single Set Trigger. It works fine but the hammer must be cocked manually. If cocked by lowering the lever it won't stay cocked when the lever is raised and the bolt moves forward. Turns out there is an old repair on the sear. The weld (or silver solder job) was done very well but the added metal was filed down too short for the sear to property engage the full-cock notch on the hammer. Does anyone know where I can find a good used sear or a diagram of one so I can get a local smith to follow those specs? Have searched the internet daily without any luck.
RE: 1886 Winchester - Don McDowell - 10-23-2014 You might want to try Jack First gunshop in Rapid City. Wyoming Armory in Cody maybe of some help. Signal Mountain Gunsmithing in Roundup Mt might be a good bet. RE: 1886 Winchester - parkergunz - 10-23-2014 Give Doug Turnbull a call in NY.
RE: 1886 Winchester - Wincacher - 10-23-2014 Thanks fellows, you've given me some new places to look. http://historicshooting.com/mybb/images/icons/thumbsup.gif RE: 1886 Winchester - Don McDowell - 10-23-2014 Let us know when you get the gun up and running. RE: 1886 Winchester - Wincacher - 11-17-2014 None of the above suggestions panned out but they did set me to searching. Found the part at Buckingham's Antique Winchesters in Trenton, Tennessee. When I spoke to him on the phone he knew exactly what I was looking for and said he had 2 in stock. Very pricey but in perfect condition and where else can one go? Got it today and will put the old 1886 back into action tomorrow. [attachment=452] |
