Snocat, what diameter are those noses? I'm surprised that a 20:1 nose would engrave that hard, unless it was 0.450". But then the only bullets I've ever tried to recover were PP bullets so maybe they are the same for me.

In my CSA 1885 I've tried a 0.460" Brooks Creedmoor with a 0.449" nose and then the same bullet ( well actually a touch heavier ) but with a 0.450" nose. The 0.450" nose leaded the barrel, but the 0.449" didn't ever show any lead.

I'm also surprised that the 16:1 bullets were heavier ( unless I misunderstood your post? ). Generally a 16:1 bullet should be a few grains lighter than a 20:1, as long as you are using pure lead and pure tin.

I can tell you that 70 gr of your 2f express also works very well in the 45-70, and 65 gr. or the 3f isn't anything to sneeze at.

Yes I've noticed the 2f express easily matches the Swiss but I only have 2 lbs . I think im going to order some Olde E 2f and some more Geox 2f express.

The nose measurement .444 and the recovered ones are .446
I'm also curious about 16 to 1 and the 50/50 WW pure lead running heavier than 20 to 1.
Looks like 5 grs more for 560 brooks and 3grs more than the 530 PJ . Maybe I got the old batch wrong ... I'm usually pretty precise, I weigh lead with a 100 lb scale thats very accurate and use a triple beam to add tin to the batch. But I've messed much simpler things up before . Lol

Let me add my 2 cents and say you'll be very pleased with Old 'E' 2F.
I run it in my Shiloh .45-70 and .45-90.

Yes it's gone up, but the last time I order powder . Olde E didn't exist and Goex express was the new kidd. Lol
How many days does it take to get the hardness of new cast bullets to be close to what they end up being .
I'm still baffled why these new cast bullets are running 5 grs heavier . I made small batches but they were spot on. I'm pretty sure I didn't drop a couple gold pieces in the mix . LOL

Hi everyone ,did some casting with 16 to 1 to see how the PJ 530 and 560 Brooks bumps up compared to 20 to 1. We got over 40 inches of snow so the bullet trap is ready.[Image: d291bf845362bfb23bc77009cf569ff6.jpg]
I started a Snowmobile club 25 yrs ago out of my shop . Now we now have 3 big Sno cats .I groom a 36 mile loop on the east of lake Erie. Hence my fourm name. Lol

I started tinkering with the 450 Brooks chicken bullet.

62 grs Swiss 11/2 dropped tube with no compression with a .30 veggie just engraved the rifling.

I also got some Olde e 2 f and 11/2.
Olde E 2f has a lot sharper recoil than swiss. I'm seeing a higher ES than Swiss 11/2 but almost 100 FPS faster with same charge and payload.

Accuracy is on par with the Swiss 1 1/2 at 200 yds but it was pretty brezzy.

Old 'E' 2F, burns like most 3F BP does.
Compress the 'E' 2F, and the SD will drop.
I run 85gn of 'E' 2F in my .45-90, and seat the bullet to cover all GG.
I also use a .060 wad for a better gas seal.
Wonder how much your FPS will go up as the temps increase in the summer.
