OK, sorry I misunderstood.
You mean like this mould I had Paul Jones make?
I had him make this so I could seat the b ullet so the GG is at the transition filling the gap between the case mouth and the 45º transition the chamber had to eliminate the lead ring and so I don't have to use a cartridge seater to fully chamber the round.
It must have been a question also with the Sharps rifle company looking at the mould they made.
I would suggest when you order the mould adding the extra length on the base to keep the lube groove close to the base like the original Ideal Postell had or that sharps mould has. The base ring was the diameter like the band between the lube grooves to keep some of the bare lead off the bore.

I shot this yesterday with a different lube, pistol primers. Wind was blowing 0-5 mph at 6-8:00. 14 shots at 200 on a 100 yard small bore target. Average velocity was 1245, es 4 fps. The 2 shots at 10:00 were me, loose grip. Considerably less lead than with the previous lube.

Steve here is a picture of the 40 cal dual diameter bullet I had Brooks build. It works quite well in my 40-70. I have not taken the time to run it in my other 40's, but I believe it would run just fine.
I wrap it in Seth Cole 55 y patch 3/4 inch wide.

I favor that profile nose. I use it for the .40 and .44's and it is a very forgiving bullet at any range I use it for.

How long is that base diameter? It looks like you might have to seat it pretty deep in the case to get it chambered. I have a brooks .40 mould I had him copy an original bullet I sent him and I been thinking about expanding the base for a DD that matches the one that Arnie drew up for me for the .38 Hepburn.

Kurt I've found with these dual diameter bullets they work best with the base length caliber diameter.
I don't know about the deep stuff, folks get all twisted up trying to seat shallow, and forget about seating depth and powder charge.
In the 40-70 it still uses 69 grains of OE 1/2 a thin card wad and thin felt wad, and will drop into the chamber.

I'm not critical on seating depth either with the PP. I want it to stay in the case so I don't have to fumble with the bullet while on line.
at the seating depth is where the accuracy is. But the more snug support the bullet shank has in the bore is a plus.
Man it's cold here been sub zero now for a spell and I'm running out of room pushing the snow around. I guess it's time to mount the snow blower.

Yup, I added one to the original design so I could get a full groove at the case mouth/ transition area.
