RE: Blackhorn 209 - Dave Roelle - 11-29-2012

Do i remember a comment somewhere that one of the KIK granulations was used as the base for this powder ?

RE: Blackhorn 209 - hipshot - 11-29-2012

What i like about useing 209 is i can use 33 grains ,a .060 wad and the money bullet and i dont have to use a filler. on cleaning , i do clean after shooting or at least the next day. They do have a 209 cleaner that cleans very well in about 5 patches.

"Wasn't paying attention"
Yeh that's what happens when you sniff to much of the fumes coming off of smokeless powders and the solvents it takes to get the stuff outa your rifle barrels.... LOL
Have a good one my friend, and give your family my best.

Hi Don, I'm late to this dance but I do use 209, but not in a cartridge rifle. I use it in my Encore muzzle loader. It works very well in that application. I can get several shots before I have to worry about hard loading. It gives excellent performance and accuracy as well. The deer don't seem to like is as well as I do! Big Grin

Hey Terry, better late than never,it's always good to hear from you.

I did some more blasting away with the 209 this morning, this time with some paper patch loads. This stuff maybe something to think about should blackpowder get hard to come by. It showed some real accuracy potential. But at the cost per round of it, I think I'll just develop some loads that Carol can use without having to fuss with fouling control and leave it go at that.

RE: Blackhorn 209 - Old Jim - 03-20-2013

I'm in the dark about the 209 powder. Are the weight amounts per caliber about the same as Goex or Swiss? Hows the velocity, fouling, compressed loads ,etc.?
I don't guess it'd be around if there wasn't some use for it other than Mzldr stuff.

RE: Blackhorn 209 - Don McDowell - 03-20-2013

Jim it's a sub, so it weighs about 70% of the same charge of bp. It looks a gawd awful lot like 5744, and sort of smells like it, but it does give a nice cloud of blue smoke. There is no fouling, it's much like smokeless in that reguard, you could shoot it all day and unless you started pulling lead there's nothing going to stop it.
Haven't chronold the stuff, but it is a bit harder into the footfeet than black, and the charges I was shooting today, the recoil was up...

RE: Blackhorn 209 - Old Jim - 03-20-2013

Theres a pretty good chance that I won't get around to tryin' it!

Hell, I may never get all this Swiss shot-up b'for the clock strikes it's last Angry Rolleyes.

RE: Blackhorn 209 - Don McDowell - 04-07-2013

Carol and her rifle got along really really well with the blackhorn and the saeco 645 bullet at 650 yds today... So now I can set down and get her ammo for Alliance loaded.
