RE: Got a call - J.B. - 11-24-2020 Nice !! And so another 44 joins the family ! The 7 degree transition chamber Don or did you brave the full pp chamber this time ? We are hoping for a shoot this weekend ..though the temperatures are predicted to be over 100 degrees. This will be the last for our club until next year. Hoping 2021 brings a little more sanity than 2020 has produced. About time I gave the 44 a breather and will loose the 50 x 2 1/2" for a change. Lovely piece of gear you have there Don...but then ...they always are. Gavin. RE: Got a call - Don McDowell - 11-24-2020 7 degree lead again. Almost did the standard chamber as it shoots both type bullets well, but the 7 degree chamber in 44 has treated me kindly. It don't take the back seat to the heavy for accuracy. RE: Got a call - Kurt - 11-24-2020 Gavin, I will take 1/2 of that 100ยบ I woke up with a white ground again this morning. RE: Got a call - Don McDowell - 11-24-2020 I am a huge fan of the 32 inch barrels. RE: Got a call - Kurt - 11-24-2020 Has Kirk put a faster ROT option for the .44 yet then the 19? RE: Got a call - Don McDowell - 11-24-2020 Not that I know of, but the 19 twist isn't a problem if you pay attention to bullet length. RE: Got a call - Kurt - 11-24-2020 I have the .44s in 1/16, 1/17 and 1/19. The 16 does not shoot as well as the 19 and I see no different between the 17 and 19 shooting a 1.3" bullet, but the 17 with a 1.450 holds better than the 1.3 in the 19 at 1000. Odd thing I can use the 1.450"" in the .44-90 BN with very good results at the 1K but the bullet needs to be a little harder than what I use for a 19 twist because of the faster rotation coming out of the .44-90. I really don't see why the .44 lost favor over the .45. RE: Got a call - Don McDowell - 11-24-2020 It lost favor I think mostly because the bn cases didn't adapt well to smokeless, and the government going with the 45-70. Couple that with the smokeless cartridges being able to hit just as hard at further distance, in lighter easier to handle rifles, that held 5 or more rounds. RE: Got a call - Kurt - 11-24-2020 There was the .44-70 Maynards and .44-75 Ballards plus others but I think your right about the GOV. using the .45 calibers. That is just like the Gov. now using the .223's now they took over the .222 and the .22-250. I have a .45-70 in the 95 Marlin and it is a hand full with that light rifle with a load of black and a 485 gr or a 500 gr bullet. It belts me just as hard as the .50 does. |
