I think I would check the firing pin and the transfer bar also. A slight burr could change the timing slightly.
I think you've come up with excuse #361.33 for a miss...........

Kurt--Take that rifle to a vetenarian and have him X ray the stock. If there is an internal crack or flaw inside the stock where you can't see it, you will get renegade harmonics and big groups. Also, take the lock out and check to see if the mainspring is rubbing on the inside of the lock plate. My Roughrider needed .015 taken off the side of the mainspring before it quit rubbing on the lockplate. I have had both issues on my Sharps.

Bill you told me about that spring about two years ago and I checked it with some bluing and it was making slight contact so I polished it with 600 grid to clear it. Last year the set trigger spring broke when I set the tension on the new spring I checked the main spring again and it was still clear. So that is good. The Stock for now will have to stay as is. But I will get some Nitrogen and cool the barrel before changing the chamber.
Well this will give something to keep from getting bored.

I just had a similar problem with a CPA. The mainspring was rubbing on the wood. Gail at CPA diagnosed it in about five minutes by email. A couple of hours later I had it working like a clock. You could even feel the difference in resistance when cocking the hammer.
