How did the people and our congress forget that this Nation was Formed as a Republic?

I pledge Allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for all.

Some should research our history again. I don't even know if they still teach it in the History class anymore. Back when I went to School you had to pass the Constitution test before you passed into High School.
