RE: Congratulations to don
Wes shot well indeed and was using olde E. Conditions were pretty tough after the 300 yard phase. Dan T's Money bullet again proves it's worth in conditions. And Olde E as a viable choice, the top 3 Scores all were with Swiss though, hope too see that change.

14 shooters for our first, state mid-range match. Paper shooting teaches one quite a bit about loads-conditions.

I will let Don explain the scoring too you Dean and his placing.

Kenny,
you are extremely right about paper shooting.
nowhere to run and nowhere to hide with a paper target.
paper shooters put their ego on the line.
not that there is anything wrong with other forms of shooting, but paper is the great foundation for excellence.
I congratulate don for getting out there, and wish him well.
keep safe,
bruce.

Don and I have talked on that very subject, Bruce, and the mindset so different than gong shooting if you just off the edge of the gong vrs paper target. We spot too get too the middle X's are what win matches, as this very match so clearly proved. Both shot the exact same score Randy though tore the X ring outa that target at 200 all his X's were there 7 of them!

I haven't seen the scores , but I'm pretty sure I was at the bottom. But that's alright. I had a brain fart with the eyecup on this sight, and as usuall brain farts will bite you hard.
Still don't have a mechanical zero on this rifle, which does proove interesting.
On the gong shooting thing Wes said it best when we were pulling the 600 yd targets " you know that's a 36 inch bullseye, and you can keep all the shots in the black and still get a lousy score, but if you were gong shooting, you'ld be one of the top"

Congrats Don..I shot paper at 200 yds yesterday. Dang..that ain't as easy as it looks in the movies! What type of globe insert do you guys use at these matches? I'm primarily hunting with my rifle and use a thin, tall post with a dot at the top. At 200 yds, that dot was covering an 8 inch circle. Hard to make repeatable sight placements that way.

RE: Congratulations to don
Well thanks. I don't look at the winning part before or after a match, first and foremost I go because I enjoy it, and secondly every time you get into one of those matches you learn something. It's especially interesting seeing the different conditions each range can throw at you with in a matter of minutes. I highly recommend folks to get into this bptr stuff, it's a great way to really learn your gun and loads.

Anyway I generally shoot an open apperature in the front globe, I prefer them smaller than some advocate, but each shooter has to determine what works best for his eye. This match I shot the aperature in the cross hairs, and it didn't show up particularly well when the weather started moving in.

I'ld like to see the yardage breakdowns, as I think I shot about as good of a position 200 yd offhand as anybody. From there on out is where I got into trouble, and that 600 yd target was just brutal. But live and learn, put your big boy britches on and go to the next match.
