what brass cleaner home made or store bought works best in the sonic cleaner ??

I got the best results just sticking with the Hornady stuff. The real trick is to follow the instructions and use distilled water with the solution.

I agree with don, hornady and a little dawn dish soap.

If you have a water softener or your Wife uses bleach in the washer and then the rinse water for your cases all of that goes into the septic tank it will do more damage eating the concrete.

I waited to reply to this until I was sure...but now I'm positive!!

Since I got a sonic cleaner I have had trouble finding the Hornady Brass cleaner at my local stores...When I did find it I saw that it was quite expensive.

I wondered, "What could it be made of?" A little research produced the Hornady "Manufactures Data Safety Sheet"..

It is just a 15% solution of "Citric Acid" I looked on ebay and sure enough 5lbs of pure Citric Acid for $14 Shipped!!. In 3 days it was on my doorstep.

I did several batches and wasn't really convinced...It cleaned very well, but my brass looked kind of tarnished. Using distilled water helps..but not completely.

Then I tied cold water and there was the answer!!! I even use tap water now. 2 tsp's of citric crystals and few drops of dish soap, 30min in the Hornady Magnum..and my brass looks new, inside and out as well as the primer pockets.

I have now cleaned every brass that I can find and after many 1000's of brass I feel it is the answer. I hope this helps you guys out...unless you like it when Hornady gets in behind you and forces you to "assume-the-position"
