Veggi vs card wads

Hi Folks,

I had been using .026 card wads from Track of the Wolf for my over powder wads but decided to try some .030 veggie wads after reading that for many, their groups improved, presumably because the veggie wad came off the bullet earlier than the card wad did.

I've loaded up rounds but haven't had a chance to shoot any yet.

So to my question, what has your experience been with veggie vs card?

And another question, or maybe confirmation really, I compress my powder and then place the wad on top. Is that the correct procedure or should I place the wad and then compress?

Get my best groups using an .060 overpowder veggie wad I buy from Harlan Sage.
I also use a .450 dia piece of coffee filter paper on top of the wad to keep the veggie from sticking to the bullets base.

I put a notebook paper or other print type paper in between the wad and the bullet. Whether coffee filter / notebook paper it doesn't make a difference. You should be able to see them floating down indicating everything is separating.

I use the coffee filter paper wads for under the powder/over the primer wads, and had'em on hand.......
Good to know about the notebook paper.

I save old bills, stuff we do on the printer, etc. so I have stock on hand. I even have a couple of those old desk calenders stashed away from when I worked in offices saved for making paper wads. It is good to recycle.........

I use to have......before I ran out some folder paper that my dad and Orville were using for wad material it measured .018 and had a gloss finish, it worked very well with pp bullets! I use circle fly wads now that measure .023 thick, they work equally well as long as you don't build custom base cups that are too deep, then they seem to stick in the cup for at least 191 yards! The antelope didn't know the difference but boy did I take a double take when we walked up to the antelope and my son Hunter who is 5 said Dad what's that? Low and behold there was my wad laying next to my antelope!

I was hoping to get out in the backyard and do some shooting today but it's been pouring all day. An unusual situation, I was home this past week and not on the road, and the only day I could go shooting was the day after the rains had closed our club range because the road got washed out....absolutely no luck this week.
