Which bullet would you choose for target work out to say 800 yards, time to try a new load and see if i can improve on my current "money bullet" load

RE: If you only had one choice
Some times it's something as easy as a different brand of primers, to get 'er goin'! Those money bullets are very popular these days, although I have not tried them. I'm still gettin' moa in my 45/70 from an old Lyman postel mold I got in 1995.

That's my story, and I'm stickin' to it!

Sad  RE: If you only had one choice
Ok Gentlemen---------------so far the postell is ahead---------Gary-------i assume in your experience its a toss up between the postell and the creedmore.

I see a few lookers but only two folks with any input,

ok then. i have the lyman postell and performance so far is "just ok" .i fought roundness with it and finally reworked the mold to get to a satisfactory result

perhaps the next one to try is the creedmore style

Given the "creedmore" is the choice what bullet weight might be preferred

The money bullet is 520 grains ----------- it casts a bit less at 16/1

seems a weight near 500 is preferred by some folks

All opinions are most welcome

Dave

RE: If you only had one choice
I will let you know after next weekend, I plan on shooting a match with the money bullet but will also have along postells to shoot as a comparison. Except for the bullet all else is equal. Might be interesting if it shows good promise I will try some different things to see if it can be tweaked.

RE: If you only had one choice
At this time I'm using a PJ C'Moor and love this bullet.
This bullet drops at .4585" and is round to .0002", cast at 30:1 alloy.
I shoot it as cast and pan lube w/DGL.
The Postell I tried was a Lyman and it was junk........
Looking at a Paul Jones Postell at this time.
I'm also still trying to master PP thanks to the loan of a mould from Don and the help of many folks here.

RE: If you only had one choice
Thanks Dag ------------i look forward to your comparative test.

Thanks Gary----------i agree on the lyman mold quality level-----thats really part of the decision, meaning perhaps a "quality" postell mold will create a bullet that will perform.

I have wondered if these BPC rifles truly have a "favorite" bullet per individual rifle------------i have certainly experienced this with the "white powder" rifles

keep well stay safe

Paul Jones is a tool & die maker by trade.
His moulds are a work of art and he wants you to be happy with them.
He also makes PP moulds that are not on his site.

IF your on the fence about PJ moulds, I would order one soon.
I have been told that he is looking to retire......

RE: If you only had one choice
I don't know if it is my soul choice but at my skill/experience level, I am very pleased with my Hoch mould casting a 550 grain bullet a 20:1. Fired as cast from my Shilo and a friends Pedersoli it will consistantly hammer a 36 inch plate at 1000 if we are able to read the wind. We have not shot groups for a long time so perhaps I can do so and post some pictures to add to the discussion on this forum.
