rear sight glare

If that barrel is level and judging it by the fireplace mantal it looks pretty close. The sight staff is leaning back enough to cause your problem. The slot on that spring is more then enough to be able to move that staff forward. forget the level loosen the screw move the staff and tighten the screw and your job will be done.

I was just poking about the beers, the sight adjusted into plumb just fine, I basically did what you posted Kurt and checked with my short level, rear sight is now plumb with barrel being level.

With the staff plumb it will work just fine for close range. But you might have this problem if you ever go to the long range gong or creedmoor matches were you have to get the eye cup up to 180 on the staff and then you might have to tip the staff forward again about as much as it was tipped back before the change you made. I have my staff tipped forward on all 8 of my MVA sights and this will give me a clear aperture from 100 yards to 1200 yards. Set it once and you will never have to mess with again..
You can check this in the gun cleaning cradlel you have that rifle in now and screw the eye cup up to 180 and turn some lights on so your room is bright or set it up by your sliding glass door if you have one and do your adjusting. Just alignn the sights up using the front and back aperture on a object and you will see if your getting a clear vision.

mine is now adjusted with forward tilt as far as it will go, that is what is now plumb with the barrel, I guess I need to slightly file out the slot on the spring???????????
