RE: spotting scope question
I got ahold of a Vortex with the angled eyepiece that I'm really tickled with. I don't know what the regular price on it would of been but I got it out of the bargain cave at Cabela's for right at 200$

RE: spotting scope question
Yes it's the Nomad, but I have the angled eyepiece. I bought it just to have a lay down scope I could use to see the target markers on longrange paper targets, but the darn little bugger is sharp enough we use it all the time now in place of the Burris. I can see 44 cal bullet holes in paper at 300 yds.

RE: spotting scope question
I have a Konus that has been most satisfactory over the last 6 or 7 years. It remains fog free and provides excellent clarity. It is not a 1500 dollar prestige Kowa scope but the performance difference between the Kowa and the Konus ($225.00) is not enough for me to justify the monetary difference. Check out Jim Owens at jarhead.com for a decent deal on eith scope.

RE: spotting scope question
The Kowa scope is popular and it is a good scope I have one. I wanted an angle eye piece to keep the scope low so looking through it did not strain the neck but more importantly keep the scope low to keep the wind from blowing it over. My old scope is a 40 year old 50mm??maybe 60mm Redfield but it is a lot sharper scope then the 82mm Kowa. Shooting off the bench I use the old redfield because I can see the holes in the black that the Kowa wont let me see. Just recently I wanted a lay down scope to read the mirage and seeing the spotter and use it for a hunting scope I could carry in the pocket or pack so I got the 15X-36X little Burris. It is a very sharp and bright scope ideal for what I want to use it for but the eye relief falls off fast a well as the field of view as the power increases but at 15-20X the range I want to use it in it is a great scope ever for a short range bench scope. http://www.eagleoptics.com/spotting-scop...MgodX00AKg
What I would suggest is go to a store like Cabela's or Shields and personally look through these scopes what ever you can afford in your price range, they will go outside with you to look through the scope at long range and shadows at long range and look through that scope to see if it has a ghost ring or edge distortions and get one that is fog proof and water proof when your using it outside in bad conditions.
Just because a scope is high priced does not mean that it better then a scope at a lesser cost. Eye relief and exit pupil
