RE: Old E
Test load#2.

A little breezy out this morning with the wind coming in at 7 o-clock at 17-18 to 26 mph gusts so I just used the heavier 500 grain elliptical bullet out of the KAL mould. I dropped 2 grains of powder at 88 gr of 1.5 and 2F Olde compressed .305" and .309" from yesterdays load and it still held the same average sized groups.
I shot one 3 shot group using the .45-2.4 Creedmoor Silhouette rifle with 82 grains of 2F Olde using the short 1.455" 523 gr PP PJ MB and it shot 1-3/16"

Nice shoot'n Kurt.
How was the fouling?
How does the powder look, compared to others you have used?
I ask because of the changes I saw with the Goex brand.

RE: Old E
Gary like I said in my previous post. The fouling test one long slow exhale with the blow tube followed with a dry patch pushed through with ease and it came out wet, a little dryer then the KIK would be and the final barrel clean up I saw no difference. Three damp patches followed by three dry patches, the last one came out just as white as it went in.
The granulation is like Don said, it's a little finer then the KIK uses.
I heard one report that it is faster then KIK. I dont have a working chrono to check my loads out to see just what it is doing, but I do notice that it pushes my 22# Tolofson rifle back harder then a load of KIK.

RE: Old E
Ok, this stuff isn't bad in the velocity dept. It would appear from this small sample it likes to get the crap mashed out of it.
I have been inguiring as to the smell of it, and it does have a sweet wood smoke aroma, but has a bit of a funny taste backflowing thru the blowtube. It does not throw much smoke, but then the wind was kicking a bit but what little smoke there was didn't seem particularly thick.
This was only 5 shots each blowtubed between shots, and barrel wiped clean between strings.
Rcbs 82084 from 20-1, 528 grs. (459),nasa lube, 030 fiber wad, ww cases cci lr primer. 58* 35% humidity. elevation 4800 ft. chrono 20 ft from the muzzle.

2f 70 grs by weight 70grs by volume measure (68.7 grs actual )
1255 1241
1222 1219
1217 1217
1219 1227
1225 1207 (recoil on this shot felt a bit extra?)

1.5 70 grs by volume (64.7gr) 70 grs weight
1184 1226
1167 1212
1159 1211
1165 1222
1177 1226

The 70 gr weighed charge of 1.5 was actually the easiest cleanup after the string. Altho none of them were particularly difficult. I did notice that the fouling with the 2f seemed to be thicker when thru the barrel immediately in front of the chamber and lighter toward the muzzle. 1.5 left even foul all the way down.
Pics of the patches to wipe out after the first string.

Don
Was this your .45-70 that you used?
What is the second column showing? Ave. MV??
When you say heavy compression. How much?
FWIW: In both the .45-70 & .45-90, I have to compress right at .400-.410" to get good groups and a cleaner burn with Goex 3-F.
That bad taste you get, can be removed with a good Wisky...Big GrinBig Grin

RE: Old E
Gary yes it was buttugly.
The second column on the 2f represents 70 grs by volume measure, and an actual 70 grs on the 1.5F

RE: Old E
Thx.
The weighted charges did give you a much lower E.S. it looks like.

RE: Old E

Gary, the 70 gr weighed charge of 1.5 barely left enough room in the case to seat the .030 wad on top before compressing. The 70 gr weighed charge of 2f is maybe .2 below the case mouth even after a slow drop. If you drop to fast thru the funnel it barely fits and the 1.5 will be rounded above the case mouth.
