Trapdoor front sight
I am looking for a wider front sight blade for my 1888 TD. I have read that at some time in the past there were some guys making wider blades, but I cannot find a current source. I have a .052" now but would like to have something around .075" wide and the standard height.

Cheers,
Steve

RE: Trapdoor front sight
Sreveu, Go to the S and S firearms website and search trapdoor front sight blades. They have original as well as tall blanks you can file to what you want. Hope this helps.

RE: Trapdoor front sight
Tom, I actually have some sight blades from S&S. Problem is they are not wide enough.

Cheers,
Steve

RE: Trapdoor front sight
Steveu, I pulled my spare blares out and find that 73-84 rifle blades are .555 in width and 73-84 carbine blades are .885. These are the normal thicknesses. If you need something wider try a machine shop for a scrap steel piece the width you need and fashion one. What is the thickness you need? Someone widen the original slot? Tom
