This guy had a lot of fat on him for an antelope. Got the meat soaking for pastrami now, will get the rest ready to season for jerky tomorrow.

Very nice! What's next? Deer or elk?

Can do either here at the house, if there was any around. Smile
Probably elk first then deer, then a late season cow elk hunt in December.

Unfortunately, there's 10-12 wolves that are currently in the area. Already got a couple cows and some elk\deer. I haven't seen them but they are supposed to be right above me. Deer season here the 16th. Pretty scarce right now.

The mountain lions are getting super thick here, coupled with the drought, and an exploding coyote population, with a handful of the extra large coyotes, all the game is taking a hit. Except the prairie dogs...

That is a fine looking feller. I never hunted Antelope or even tasted a chop from one.
Heading north from Belle Fourche SD and Alzada WYO There are always a bunch mixed in with the sheep and cattle but last trip a couple weeks ago I don't think I saw 5. I think they moved on to where there was water maybe, sure looks dry all the way up into Montana this trip.

We’re terrible dry here but it’s worse further north

Don,
I just caught this thread and I am a big fan of the 7mm-08 cartridge for Antelope and similar sized game , .270 Winchester performance in a short action rifle, easy on powder with all of the really good 7mm bullets. I shot my last Antelope with a on sale Rem. 700 SS 24” barrel, junked the flimsy factory stock HS Precision Sporter stock, glass, pillar bedded Timney trigger, Zeiss 3-9 scope, shoots very good for not a lot of money.
Three years ago I bought my third French Brittany puppy, a orange and white one this time. He’s the best bred animal that has ever owned me amazing bird dogs. Any way Antelope think he’s one of them and will stop and they will start walking right to us. During the rut this year there was a nice buck on some state land close by and he wanted to fight my dog and had to throw rocks at him to shoo him away. No matter where we go if Antelope are around they want to be with him for whatever reason.
Antelope make fantastic Pastrami .
