Just got new Browning 1885 BPCR, 45-70 suggestions for loads
I just walked in the door with my New Unfired Browning 1885 BPCR 45-70 , WOOO HOOOO. I will break in the barrel tomorrow , with the steel wool. I am looking for some starting loads that have worked for this rifle . I am hoping to load some to shoot Wednesday , Thanks in advance

I would be very careful about using steel wool in a new Badger barrel.
It may take 500 rounds fired with BP to get excellent accuracy, but then look at all the trigger time you will have with the rifle.
That is a win-win.
Keep on hav'n fun!

Do not put steel wool in that barrel, it''s not needed, and will likely cause more damage than anything it could possibly cure.

535 gr M2 monti bullet cast from 16-1 , loaded on top of 69 grains of OE 1 1/2 with a 030 fiber wad, with the bullet seated maybe i groove exposed should shoot quite well for you. At least it does in the 2 of them that live here.

Yeah I wouldn't use steel wool. Break it in by shooting it. You'll likely find that it needs zero break in. None of my BPCR rifles ever needed breaking in. When I had a Browning BPCR in .45-70 and my load wasn't too different than Don's. It worked pretty nicely.

I guess every one has their own Idea. Badger barrel used to say use jacketed bullets. Lee Shaver says to use 0000 steel wool , from what I read here, just shoot it .
