DDEPPs in 38-50RH

I am still working on loads for my Brg BPCR 38-50Rem Hep/10 twist Douglas 30" Octagon.
So far all shot at 200yds with scope.
I am Shooting mainly the JIM371360E bullet, 1.463" long. I have worked up to a load of F150primer/66 gr Swiss 3F/0.060LDPE wad
compressed about 0.075" for
Bullets seated for a slight crush fit into the leade by the taper between
the base band and the body.
YesterdaysFirst 5 shot group with the 371360/66 gr S3. 1.5minVertx 1 min Hor'z.

Then second group was shot with the 371345E at 1.403" long, designed for 12 twist barrel.

All 5 into 1.4", Four of them into 1". I would like to think that second shot at 1:00 was ME. This is second time this bullet has shot better than the longer 360 gr. Hmmmm!
This 66 gr load with the 360 gr bullet was shot with Iron sights at the
ISSA Schuetzen Postal match and won the BPCR category.

Well, sorry that my intended attachments (IMGs) did not show. ????????

Now, before I received the DDEPP mold, I had early on shot some GG bullets patched, and had to seat them
deep to bottom of neck over 56 grains Swiss 3F.
Well, I had a few of the loaded cases left.
So, "just to see" I shot some of these cases up, with the 371360 bullet deep seated about 0.4" in the case
and 56 gr Swiss 3f. These shot in to 3" vert x 1.5" Horizontal in 5 shot group. "3 in 1.5" and two, 2" below in3/4". "Double grouping"
! I suspect that Noon time Boil/Mirage had something to do with the vertical. Promising light load for the short yard line/offhand?

Well, I did get to shoot some misc. 38-50 loads at the gong match at Wi Rapids yesterday.
Started out with "using up" some that were loaded with KIK 2F, in verifying approx.
zero at 220yds. Then a couple of the "best load" so far - 66 gr Swiss 3f under the my JIM371360 bullet.
Now, moved to the 600yds targets. Added 40 minutes from the 220yds setup and shot just under the
36" gong. Added 3 minutes and got centered with small adjustments over next couple of shots leaving a tight group of hits on center.
NOW: I swung over to our "special bonus target", a Bowling pin hung by a rope on a shephers's hook
One Shot One Splintered Kill thru center body of the pin -600yds.
Then, I offered Jim K to take a few shots since he showed interest in this Ctg
I suggested, hey, try the bowling pin first. One shot One kill.
I am liking this rifle and the bullet for my 10 twist rifle.

Back to back shots by two different shooters both hitting a bowling pins at 600 yards says a lot for what you've done with that rifle/bullet/load combination! It was pretty fun shooting your rifle. That paper patch bullet is almost as long as the case!

Thanks again for coming and shooting at Rapids.
Our intention is to provide relaxed, fun opportunities to shoot,
developing loads, discussing what is going on, sharing ideas,
loads, etc.
I have to say, this 38-50 rifle was easy to get shooting well.
The bullet is proportioned along the lines you and I have discussed and agree on. I think I saw that Rick Morell, was using Swiss 3F in his 38-50, so started there by filling the case to 0.060 or so from the top
to allow for the 0.060" LDPE wad to get started. Came up with 66.8 gr at first. That shot well. But, kind of a pain to Carefully handle that
case so full after drop tubing the powder in. So I backed off to 66 gr even. Still shoots really well. That is what we were shooting at that bowling pin.
The other thing, there were those reduced loads-56 gr, for that heavy NASA GG bullet, that also shot pretty well using the 371360E DDEPP bullet seated deep like that-think Chicken load/short line.....
Perhaps your 44-77 with that long neck could shoot a reduced load like that for Chickens .
