Development of PP loads for the .44-77.

RE: Development of PP loads for the .44-77.
Jim,

Those are identical dimensions I put in a E-Mail with BA for Arnies .443 on their site.
The .433 shank is too tight for my bore even with the Yellow paper. I patched some to that diameter and it was a hard thumb push to get the round in the chamber to close the breach.
I sent them a E-Mail two weeks ago because I cant understand a conversation over the phone and I have not heard back from them yet.
The them I want one with your measurements also and I will make arrangements with them.

Kurt,

BACO has never been good about answering emails and I can understand that in some ways. It can be a full time job. I will say that when I call they go out the their way to help with answers and advise. When I called to check on this .44 caliber barrel the guy I talked to put the phone down and went and visually check that it was in stock and was the correct caliber and twist. Then he hand carried it to shipping and told them to ship it that day, it was at Shiloh the next day! Pretty good service I think.

I will call them this afternoon and follow that up with an email of the drawing and details. Years of being in business taught me that if you want things to be right follow-up is important and putting it in writing is best.

Jim.
I got a reply just now and they said they will sent it to higher up.

I agree their service is tops, always has been for me.

I called BACO but they did not sound too receptive to the idea. I was told to email a drawing with a request to consider adding a new design and they would look at it and get back to me. I'll give them some time and then consider other options.

They should offer a 2-DEPP mold for .44 caliber 17-twist rifles. Maybe they will accept my drawing.

Little insight on the BACO mould thing. With the hundreds of moulds they have on file, and the heavy demand they have, Dave is really hesitant to add a new design unless he's sure it's going to be a big seller.
With the way the elevation holding the way it does in my 17 twist 44 2.4, all the way to 1000 it's going to be hard to best that 434470 from BACO

HI, Jim,
Sorry I did not get back to you earlier today. We went "to town" to get some
needed shopping done.
I like your design/dimensions. I am sure that you have set the diameters
according to your now in-hand rifle. And the base band length to fit that slight freebore
plus .100-.125 in the case. Good Nose /body percent of length at 56.6 to 43.4 % of total length
Only thing I might change would be to drop the base of ogive diameter another 0.001 so it would
be easier to see when patching.
Hope that Dave approves of cutting the mold.

And, Kurt, I hope they cut your 44 mold, too.

Regards.
Again, this is exciting.

The guy at BACO seemed to think they got behind spending too much time working with these 2-D PPB and not enough time cutting molds. It was just a sales guy I talked to so I'm not sure he had the details of the story correct so we'll see where it all goes. I've done a couple of favors for Dave over the years, not that he owes me anything, but he may consider that when he looks at it.

I hope so because I've been planning on them for the 2-DEPP mold all along. If for some reason they decline to do it I'll go to Rick at KAL.

Don,

That nose style is one I also want to work with and I can easily alter a straight sided mold to a 2-Diameter design and will do that with that design. BACO does not offer a straight sided elliptical design or I would do the same with that and alter it myself.

I'll give BACO a week and then I'll figure something else. I'll need a 2-DEPP for September and have to allow 4 weeks to get one done I'm sure, maybe more.

I can sympathize with Dave, when you offer custom work with alterations you can quickly become buried in all the variables. I've been there, done that!

Interestingly, at first, Matt Steckel got a similar story from "a guy" there when he wanted to order the 343495E mold. But Dave got in there
and OKed it.

Arnie,

That's why I said I'll wait and see how this goes before I get to excited about what I heard on the phone today. I'm sure there is more to the story than what I was told.

This whole thing makes me more inclined to explore cutting my own molds again, but right now there are too many other things getting in my way.
