I used to use Hornady SX bullets made for a Hornet. Rarely had an exit. They were on the verge of exploding when they were fired at high velocity.

When you could get them the Winchester bulk 45 hp for the Hornet worked really nice.

I see a Winchester 46 grain hollow point listed. Probably for .223 or others.

The Hornady SX you have to keep under 3200 fps or all you will see is a gray streak on the way down range. I have seen this quite often even when shot with the .222. They have a very thin jacket and soft core. The RPM or the fast ROT will strip the jacket.

I think a 40 or 46 gr HP shot with a .22-250 yould be close to 4000 fps and when that hits a Coyote it would be like sticking a M-80 up his posterior with a lit fuse LOL. all you would have is bits and pieces of hide.

I haven't used that 46 gr. hp in any reloads altho I did stumble into a couple of bulk boxes of their factory stuff loaded with it in 223. Shot like a laser, and when it hit a coyote it was sort of like a cartoon, there'd just be some hair floating where the coyote was standing, but it would be dead and there wasn't any exit hole. But they would absolutely vaporize prairie dogs.
The 45 gr hornet bullets they used to sell as component bullets, but haven't seen any of those available since the big ammo crunch a few years back. Think I might still have one bag of them left.

The Hornet as well as the Savage .22 HP used those bullets but they were a .223 diameter.
I still have a part of a box and they shoot very good in the 14 ROT barrels. had a egg shoot last fall and I pulled my .222 and I used some ammo that was loaded back in the 80's and that box was labeled 20 gr IMR 4198 45 gr hornady. I had to run them through the seating die just enough to break them loose in the neck. They been loaded so long that there was a definite click when they broke loose.
But they ran all the eggs at 200.

The savage hp uses 227 bullets, but will shoot ok with .224's.
These Winchester component bullets were .224

I had .22 HP back in the 50's but I could still get factory rounds back then for it. I think they went obsolete back during the war maybe a little earlier. I used a set of Hemp dies with a Pacific Press but I used the same bullets I used for the hornet. But that is not saying it was the proper bullet but it worked.

If you keep an eye on J&G sales, they get in from time to time Sellier and Bellot factory rounds, sometimes loaded with the fmj bullet and sometimes with jsp. Since Hornady quit making the .227 bullets the only choice in jacketed now is the 224's.

I know Norma still has the .22 HP not long ago and there is a .22 Russian that can be used for forming cases.
But I think the old reliable .222 is still tops in my book for the .22 centerfire followed by the Hornet.
I had both in a bench rifle that has a 2"X26" Heart barrels and both won me dust collectors with 100 yard 10 shot holes a hair larger than the bullet diameter.
