RE: Lube Recipes using Mutton Tallow
I'd been using ozokerite with tallow and turbine oil, but I'm not happy with it for hot dry shooting. I need to add some type of oil to it to make it stickier. Maybe the jojoba oil will do it.

Brian

There are 14 different types OZ wax that I know of that have a melting point from 150 degrees to 200 degs.
Some when it gets hot will form a hard crusty lube star at the muzzle when it is mixed with other stuff but it will hydrate well when using a blow tube. You can just exhale on the muzzle and that crusty lube star will turn to grease.
Some with just oil added will stay soft better then the other grades.
Some grades have a higher gel strength and penetration.

(01-14-2013, 05:14 PM)bruce moulds Wrote: here is a recipe that proved successful.
75 gm ozokerite
75 gm tallow
62 gm copha
150 ml caster oil
12 gm vaseline.
this lube had the least leading in a certain barrel of any lubes by a long chalk.
the piece of paper with the recipe on sits on top of the lube and has some oil staining, so there is either too much caster, or another oil might be better.
ozokerite seems to carry more ingredients than beeswax.
old charly dell woild probably roll over in his grave at using vaseline in a bpcr lube, but it worked.
if ever i start making lube again, this is where i will start.

What is copha? I googled to no avail.

caprock,
copha is a product we get in aust that is made from coconuts.
it is white, a bit harder than butter, and is used for such things as cake making.
i have since read that caster oil will tend to bleed out of lubes, but cannot comment due to lack of experience.
what i can say from testing waxes on hot steel plates, is that paraffin wax bleeds more than bees or micro.
keep safe,

RE: Lube Recipes using Mutton Tallow
I really like the old stand-by. So easy to make and works better than anything I have ever tried.

2 parts Mutton Tallow
2 parts Paraffin
1 part Bees Wax
1 sml Jug of synthetic 2 cycle oil

If you need a source for Mutton Tallow I suggest that you call this lady... Anita is very nice and her procuct comes out of Australia. It is 100% pure cosmetic grade Mutton Tallow. Company has been around since 1895 and has been in her family since the 50's.

Her price is $10/lb but it is an honost lb...unlike Dixie who has been selling 10oz jugs as a lb.
Here is her contact info....(no web sight yet and that is why she was so had to find).
