RE: 2018 Hunting coming soon
Stephen,
I have taken 3 deer with 2 different 1874 Sharps and also an original Trapdoor the past 3 years. I have a new to me 45-70 C.Sharps that will need to be broken in hunting on deer this fall. Good luck on the antelope hunt, sounds fun!

RE: 2018 Hunting coming soon
Hope to have my new Shiloh #3 Sporter 44-77 in my hands in time to work up a good hunting load for this fall, have some beautiful 475 gr bullets patched up and ready to load, the 40-65, 45-70, 45-110 and 50-90 will be on tap, and are ready for white tail deer in two states, cow elk in Colorado, and a big Nilgai Bull in deep SE Texas.
I may get in a little lever action hunting as well, original 1886's in 40-65 and 45-70 loaded with black powder and cast bullets as well as a Turnbull '86 in 50-110 WCF firing 700 gr flat nosed greasers at 1240 fps with black powder is ready for all comers too.
Good Luck and Good Hunting to all, be Safe and punch em where it counts.

Rick my oldest son is going to hunt with my 73 Trapdoor this fall. I bought it when I was 14, the same age he is now. It has killed several deer over the years. Can’t wait to watch him hunt with it.

What I'm really looking for is a specific pesky bear. I owe him one.
Gussy that sounds great. I hope you get a shot on that pesky bear, I want to see the pictures of that bad boy.

Gunner, you have the same problem I have. To many guns and not enough animals to hunt. I have a 76 Win in a 45-60 that needs to get hunted with, and a 40/50 BN made by Shiloh. My twelve year old wants to hunt with the 40/50 so hopefully he makes meat with it.

RE: 2018 Hunting coming soon
Stephen here in Illinois I can't use a cartridge rifle for Deer. They allow using the inline ML that get packed with a load that rivals a .458 Win Mag, some have the inlines that are loaded with smokeless.
I haven't hunted deer here for several years in my back yard but I think I will get a couple tags for the bow and the muzzle loader because they been raking my young fruit trees during the rutting season and the freezer is empty
I will use my .54 flint Southern Mountain rifle and the recurve bow.
The reason a dog has so many friends is because he wags his tail instead of his tongue.

Kurt that sounds like fun to me. I miss Hunting whitetail in the trees. I use to love sitting for hours in a tree stand. You can learn a lot.

RE: 2018 Hunting coming soon
I normally don't hunt from a tree stand but I do have one up during the season. I like to still hunt in the timbers, walk a few steps like deer when they are feeding and look for a flick of a ear or something out of place in the brush where they bed down or stalk them.
I been up in tree stands and I normally fall asleep and waking up I have seen them looking up at me when I start to move and I have dropped my bow a time or two LOL.
The reason a dog has so many friends is because he wags his tail instead of his tongue.
