Interesting tale from Lodi
When we got to Lodi and got thru the practice day, Eddie came over and said do you have your lee hand press, I told him I did, did he need to punch the primers. No , the guy camped next to him had a bunch of ammo that would chamber and he was wanting to try and seat the bullets deeper. So I went over and talked with him, and after examining his rounds, a seating die probably wouldn't of helped.
He was about to decide to pack up and go home as he didn't have enough ammo to shoot the match. I then asked him if he could pull his bullets, would he want to try some paper patch bullets? I had a handful of extra rounds for the 110 that I wouldn't be shooting , as they were loaded in the stretched 348 brass, and I had 1 of those cases split length ways while still in the ammo box, didn't notice that until I tried to chamber it, and the next one out of the box seperated... I also had a handful of extra rounds for the 45-90, and those fit just fine in his chamber...
So the decision was made he could shoot the extra 2.4 rounds, and pull the bullets from the 110's and replace his bullets. We had no idea what the outcome would be, but at least he wouldn't have made the trip to Lodi just to say hello. I told him I would suggest he used his same wiping routine and lets see what happens.
Next morning we started the Cup match on the 1000 yard line, I was his score keeper. First sighter went down range and hit the target, by the time he finished up that 1000 yard target he was ecstatic he had just fired the best 1000 yard score he had ever fired...
Moral of the story, super shallow seating of patched bullets isn't necessarily the answer. A patched bullet seated as deep as a grease groove bullet can shoot very well. Good paper patch shooting is more dependent on bullet fit to the bore and a good fouling control routine.
A wise man can always be found alone. A weak man can always be found in a crowd.

Hey Don, this is great news and so glad you were able to help this shooter compete.
I will be sending 500 primed and charged 45 2.4 cases by UPS tomorrow, do you think you can make up the PP bullets, seat them in the case and get them back by this Friday ?
Would be much appreciated.
