wad types and wad stacks for "reduced" loads
for the .45-2.1 i'm testing out .060 cornell die punched out ldpe wads for the BACO 522 elliptical ppb and 81 grains of swiss 1.5 for longer distances. starline brass only.

however, for the shorter 200yd/200m distances i've been using, with quite good success, a load of 60.2 swiss 1.5 under a pair of .025 milk wads, a pair of .125 hard felt dry wads, and another pair of .025 milkwads, and an accurate molds 45-405 ppb slick that drops at 403 grains with 1:20 alloy. this is a load that's more accurate than my old eyes, and uses less of everything and allows for a light recoil that can only aid accuracy (for me). a BACO bore wiper and a dry arsenal patch between shots for fouling control.

but perhaps a grease cookie wad stack of ldpe might be doable instead of the milk and felt wads, and make for even easier/faster fouling control with just a dry patch? a couple of my club's 200yd matches have a really tight time limit of 45 minutes to unload 35 rounds, and any reloading time i can save and put to aiming would be a boon. perhaps 60 grains of swiss 1.5, a .060 ldpe, 3/16" of lube, another .060 ldpe, a few .002 newsprint wads? concerned with issues i''ve heard of ldpe bulging brass ... ? if so, replace the ldpe wads with a pair of .025 milk wads for the cookie lube containment, or some other wad stack variation?

Yes my .45 chambers at .474" the .060" HDPE and LDPE will bulge the case necks as well in the tight .44's and .40's but the standard .45 chambers at .484" I see no problems using a .060" ldpe

Try an 1/8 in felt wad.

I used to use 1/4" bulletin board cork in a 45-120. Worked great and they looked reusable when I pick them up down range.

yep, i said that in my topic post. not one, but two. Smile

made some 3/16" sheets of gato feo lube using a "cookie sheet mould" and it works purty good. will shoot 'em tomorrow,

thanx kurt - interesting. got a loose chamber, too, so will see later today how the ldpe wads do.
