RE: Shiloh Sharps 44-77 paper patch
My Shiloh 45-70 Rough Rider, 45-90 #1, along with the newer C. Sharps 45-70 are target rifles both mid range and long range. The Shiloh Military in 50-70 is a hunter and occasional steel banger but," Lucrezia", the C. Sharps "Big Fifty" and the Shiloh Hartford 44-77 are fast becoming my favorites! With these 2 bullets, the Brook's 440 grain Medford style bullet and the new Brook's 478 grain RN Sharps style bullets in the Loomer tight paper patch chamber is just too easy to work up loads. Once fire formed and using either 75 grains of KIK 2 fg or 73 grains of OE 2 fg they just plain shoot. I do want to work out a long range load with the new bullet and increase the charges seating the bullet out placing just a bit of the base into the case. For now I have only thin .450 cards so have been using a grease cookie in my loads. I'll have to see where the charge ends up seating the 478 grain bullet out and think I'll be around 85 grains of KIK in fire formed brass. Should be fun!!
