Uberti 1876 winnie
Anybody shooting these or the Chappys? I've got an Uberti in 45-60 I'm having a ball with. Only thing that holds it back are the crummy sights....or my crummy eye sight, take your pick. Anyway. Very accurate rifle with smokey and smokeyless.

HHmmm not a popular rifle eh? I did some shooting with it yesterday with varget. Seems to like 35gr. and a 405gr bullet. It sooots 300gr bullets well ith BP, but only about the first 3 or 4 shots. Got some KIK coming next week, so that should help some.
Been looking at a Lyman peep sight, should really help.

I have a Chappy in 45-75. I guess I am one of the lucky fellows that has not had any problems with their rifles, from what I read on the interweb. Mine has been reliable and very accurate. I use 350 gr bullet from BACO 68 grs of 2FG Kik and a .030 card wad. Routinely get 2 inch groups at 130 yards. I replaced the sights with a Marble flat top rear sight on which I filed a new wider notch to match the wider front blade I put on. Makes a world of difference when you can see the wide front sight with lots of light on the rear notch.

I bought a Chappy 76 in 45/60. I've only shot smokeless with a 330 gr bullet. I've been using 4895. Eventually I want to use black powder. I haven't really had any problems. I thought my 86 was fun to shoot but the 76 is a lot of fun too.

I'm having a similar fun experience with a special purpose Lever rifle. The Ohio DNR has opened this years Deer Gun season to straight walled pistol and some rifle calibers. So for modest investment I picked up a Rossi '92 Win clone in 45 Long Colt, 24 inch Oct. barrel. One of the first mods was Marbles Tang rear sight. What a hoot, of course this required a new mold and fussing. I doubt it would be competitive at BPCR games but it will be nice toting about an 8 lb rifle rather than my '74 Sharps at near 13#. It's been a major workout to disassemble, clean, and hone the innards to make this humble rifle act like it's parent generation. It shoots economically and provides more trigger time which I need badly.

I've got a Uberti 1873 Sporting rifle but it's in 44-40. Two Pedersoli, one Rolling Block and one Sharps, both 45-70. The two latter ones shoot very well. Wish I could share some BP experience but just jenning up there. The 44-40 has been pushed to the rear for all the time spent with some Ballards.

btw... discarded the sights on the Rolling Block for an MVA base. So far swapping back and forth staffs but hope to buy more so I won't have so much of that happening.
