RE: 1911 .45acp
Good information Gary. Some of the recent run of Colt 1911's are running a 'two spring' system on the guide rod. Supposed to reduce muzzle flip/ lift to some degree. I still prefer 45's to 9mm...they just seem 'better behaved' and less snappy. Perhaps I'm just compensating ? Tongue

RE: 1911 .45acp
Photo bucket finally cooperated
This is all I have left for hand guns. I used to be heavy in bulls eye and combat matches. The .45 Goldcup for 50 yards hardball and the 52 master and .22 Victor or the 41 S&W that is not in this photo for the 25 yard line NRA matches. The 357 S&W wheel guns for combat.
The 52 S&W Master kept me in the high 290's and even a couple 300'rds. I don't think that there is a center fire pistol straight out of the box that can out shoot it.

JMB used what is now called a 16 lb recoil spring for the cartridge he developed(230 gn bullet-.45cal @ 850fps). Back in the day, the number of spring coils is what was counted.
I currently own 4 Colt 1911s in .45acp. One is my duty gun that I built with Bomar Sights, Bar-Sto bbl, beavertail grip safety. Another is a Gold Cup with Bar-Sto bbl. 3rd is a LW Commander, with just a bit of trigger work, bbl fitting and a beavertail grip safety. Last was a gift from the master 1911 gunsmith I worked under for 5+ yrs, before he moved away. It has all the bells and whistles, that Armand Swenson was known for. It is a fantastic example, of a working piece of art.

Dang good target gun too.
Gary

Yup, I've carried one every day for near the last 30 years.

Currently have

Les Baer Custom Carry 5" 45 ACP
Fusion Arms/Wilson Combat/Ed Brown custom Commander 45 ACP
Dan Wesson 1911 Razorback 10mm
Colt Talo LW Commander 38 Super

Have the 10mm sitting right here as I type this, it's stoked with 11 200 gr XTP's at 1220 fps.

I'll never be without a 1911, love em!
