44-77 1000 yd

Working on getting sight settings for the roughrider with it's Baldwin front sight, and the MVA midrange buffalo soul. 1000 yds. Nothing spectacular, but not bad for the silly little wind reversals and clouds then bright sun.

Mostly was shooting the tank buster, did a few rounds with the 434470, used 78 gr. of OE 1 1/2 and just used a single felt wad. Think I may need to revisit that one again.

The tank buster appeals to me, I'll have to get one of those molds someday... Right now I'm still playing with the 400 grain bullets in my .44/77. Some doin's for short range work. Shoot sharp, Mike

I like that tank buster. Lenthen it out, shorten it up, depending on what a person wants to do , the darn thing just shoots.

Ok I'll bite. What's a tank buster mould?
Next week when I get my 44-70 it has a BACO 500 grain Money mould and it was posted as a Green mountain 18 twist barrel, but GM only shows 1 in 17 twist barrels so I guess I'll check the twist first.

The tank buster is a dual diameter nose pour adjustable from Brooks, also have one from Old West, but Bernie don't do those anymore.
I would urge you to hold off on ordering a mould until you get to measure the twist in that barrel. Also do a chamber cast that takes in the first inch or so of the rifling so you can get a good measurement on the bore and groove.

The tank buster is the second and 3rd bullets from the left, the 4th bullet is the BAC0 434470. That BACO bullet should make a good one in your 70 if the twist is 18 or better.

The 17 twist is a good one for the .44. I have the .44's in 16, 17 and 19 twist. I also have a GG and PP MB for the .44's and mine drops out of the mould at 507 gr with 1/16 alloy and that bullet does well out to the 1K
I wish my .44-77 had a 17 ROT.
