Streching brass?
Working up my 45-90 brass from the recent Lodi, WI. Creedmoor match I have discovered a new method for stretching brass. On one relay I noticed some of my wet patches seemed to carry a little too much solution and 1 dry patch did not remove enough moisture from the chamber. Some have stretched 2-3 thousands and a few went 4-6 thousands. The bulk of the brass showed no stretching and remained at 2.400 or + .001 Those that ran long I trimmed back to 2.403 at I want to continue working up[ a good paper patch load and the chamber is just a whisker over 2.400. Probably not the best method for this but since it happened, I'll take it. Have to be more careful in squeezing them out and not carrying too much wet to avoid this happening in the future. I'll watch this batch of cases and see if I start to get any hint of separation. I do hope not but we will see.

RE: Streching brass?
You know LG, I never made a chamber cast from this barrel. Had Shiloh do a change several years ago (originally a 40-50 bn). Brass that is under 2.400 I use with grooved bullets and 2.400+ is used with paper patch bullets. Results with 2.400 up to + .003 are working well but I have not got the loads quite where I want them yet. Using a BACO .444 Money Bullet 16/1 patched to .450 with either Swiss or OE 1.5 fg I see no paper rings or leading and the bullets are passing through the target at 1000 yards nice and round. I've modified the patch height and use less paper under the base but still have to tweek the type of over powder wad and the seating depth. I'll get things worked out this season. Always appreciate your advice and that has helped me working out my loads.

RE: Streching brass?
I only shoot GG bullets. When my .45-90 brass is longer than 2.405". I trim back to 2.395". This in for a factory Shiloh bbl.
Here's my '90 load that works very well.
Annealed S'line brass-Lightly FL sized(I use a .45-110 FL die)-Case mouth expanded to .4565"-Fed match or CCI br2 primer-.40 cal coffee paper wad at the bottom of the case-85gn of Old 'E'-.060 LDPE wad-Paul Jones Creedmmor bullet cast 30:1 and shot 'as cast'-Bullet seat'd to just cover the top grease groove-Pan lube w/DGL-Close case mouth to .476"-.478" dia.
I blow tube only.

RE: Streching brass?
LG, I use a similar load for a BACO 540 grain Creedmoor (first 2 bands reduced) Starline brass, CCI BR2 primer, 85 grains of Swiss 1.5 fg, .060 vegi or poly wad and the bullet seated so the first 2 bands are exposed. Shoots very good in my rifle. I do like longer brass and have my trimmer set for 2.400. Most brass does not need trimming and just squares up the mouth, longer is set aside for paper patch. 2.400 to 2.403. Under 2.400 is used for grease grooved bullets. These run 2.398 down to 2.394 and I try to seat the bullets with a lube groove at the mouth to have grease rather than lead taking up the extra space. I get no leading doing this and they still shoot very good. Those cases that stretched from a damp chamber at the Lodi match I'll trim to 2.403 and use them for paper patch and keep an eye on then looking for any hint of separation. Oh, and 1.5 OE shoots just about as well!

RE: Streching brass?
I stretched a bunch of 45-90 cases that way . Cracks at the top of the web started showing up randomly after the next firing..
