Most of the KOA's I've ever stayed in always seem to be sandwiched between a busy highway, and a railroad track..

That is unfortunately true. One of the nights in Greybull last year there was some really noisy work on the railroad tracks that seemed to start at about 2:30 a.m. It sounded like the worlds loudest grinder.
