A Western Shooting Trek
Happy New Year everyone----------
Thinking ahead, this year might be the year to make a trip west.
Planning around the Quigley Match what other venues would be good to include in a shooting vacation ?-------Duration may depend on the actual opportunities so currently time is not a factor.
Traveling from Texas----route is completely open
Thanks in advance for any and all input
Dave

RE: A Western Shooting Trek
The week before and after the Quigley is the Baker Mt. It's a great 4 gun shoot. .22, revolver, lever rifle and long range that is over a beautiful setting and usually interesting conditions.
Just bring a lot of ammo or a way to reload.
The two ranges are only 120 miles apart. A good warm up for the Q and a good way to relax the frustration for missing one or two to many of the Q irons

RE: A Western Shooting Trek
The Peabody Pass Shootout is no longer being held. Too bad, I enjoyed that match.
In addition to the two Baker matches, there is a match in Plentywood, MT July 1-2 with levergun on Friday and gong match on Sat. The weekend after that should be the Forsyth 1000 yard match, followed by a match near Beach, ND. This last match has a .22 rifle and lever gun match on Sat and a gong match on Sun.
Last year I shot 6 matches on consecutive weekends and 7 matches in 8 weekends. Lots of shooting & fun.

RE: A Western Shooting Trek
Morning Gentlemen:
First thanks for all the replies !!!!!!-----looks like a few options not to far from the Quigley---
Kurt------a warm up would be a good idea so a match ahead of the Quigley a great thought
Bryan-----i'll have Two 45-70 Shiloh's one shooting irons, one shooting scope
I shoot silhouettes currently, BPTR is interesting-----never been to a "gong" match-----shootem at the ranch all the time
I can rig to load on the road pretty easy----cast up a bunch and pack carefully rather than cast on the road---refilling brass then is the easy part
i understand the ammo quantity needed for silhouette, how much shooting is actually available at the Quigley ???--------how about your average "gong" match-------------
With the gun shows coming up in Houston i can find extra brass----probably have 500 rounds currently
Again THANKS
Dave

RE: A Western Shooting Trek
Dave.
I usually take around 800 rounds just to the Quigley before I used to stop at Baker and ended up reloading to shoot the match. since I been stopping at Baker then the Q and back at Baker before heading up in the hills where it's cool the reloading gets to be to much so last year I took 1400 rounds because the new Gypsy wagon was not setup yet for reloading I ran out of ammo for the match except for some odd and end test loads that would not hold on the 600 yard iron and even those I did not have enough for the days shoot.
Take enough and have fun.

Got the new paper shredder up and running, gonna have to shoot scope though just can't see well enough anymore to shoot irons past 300
