Tollofson match
There's been a dust up about the Tollofson matches being discontinued at the BPTR nationals. NRA competitions saying that match was never approved ..
Well for those that might beg to differ..Dodgyhttp://bulletin.accurateshooter.com/2011...nationals/

RE: Tollofson match
I'm tearing my 25# Tollofson rifle down and making it more manageable to shoot. It is a fine shooting rifle but just to heavy. The extra weight does not add to the accuracy but it does tame the recoil, but that is all I can see being an advantage.

RE: Tollofson match
Don is the idea that Tollofson matches are being discontinued at all NRA matches or just the nationals? I've just played with mine and plan on bringing it to a match one of these days...

RE: Tollofson match
Chris there was a huge discussion at the shooter meeting, about why there wasn't a class for Tollofson anymore. NRA said it was never approved and was never an allowed class, turns out someone is not really paying much attention. Much like the statement about nobody there knows why BPTR was segmented away from sillouette at the Nationals.... The BPTR shooters requested it by majority vote.. Competitions approved, and so it was done..

RE: Tollofson match
That's sounds about right since I'm trying to get an accurate load put together in mine right now. All dressed up and no place to go, comes to mind.

RE: Tollofson match
Yup. That's what prompted the big discussion at the shooter's meeting at the Nationals. There are several of those rifles have been built since back in 9 or 10 when the class was approved. Now competions has just decided it never happened....Altho their own literature tells us different, and we know for fact Jim Terry won that class at the nationals in 11...

RE: Tollofson match
Tollofson was approved to now have records at the meetings in Oct. according to Zack Taylor.

Least that is what he emailed me. However with NRA bailing on Target Rifle, it matters not much?

RE: Tollofson match
Kenny I'm thinking the NRA is only wanting to bail on putting on the match. They would like to find a club/range/ match director that would do all the work and they would keep the records.
What prompted me to post this was when searching for previous years match results, the report from 2011 showed up on Accurate shooting thru a Google search. Interesting that we were told that the class never existed...

RE: Tollofson match
In 2012 I had Kirk switch a barrel on one of my rough riders and fit a 1.3"X35" barrel on it to make it a Tollofson class rifle for the Nationals with the intentions of going last year. The rifle shoots quite well the few times I used it at the gong shoots where I tested it. Last year I gave it the final run at the Quigley but I was in such bad shape that I just could not function. I even had to pass on the fall Lodi match.
I think the reason this Tollofson class is falling through is, their just were not enough shooters to make a class for it. I hope they keep this class because there are enough shooters building the heavy rifle.
Yesterday I was going to pull the barrel on mine and screw the original .44-90bn barrel back on the rifle but I could not find the wrench. Don't know what happened to it.

RE: Tollofson match
Kurt the reason the Tollofson class is "falling thru" the NRA Competitions people decided it is a class that NEVER existed. Has nothing to do with the number of folks, matter of fact there were people that showed up prepared to shoot the Tollofson and told there was no class for that, the guns were over weight per bptr rules..
Much like Dennis Willing saying in print mind you, that he has no idea why the bptr and bpcr sillouette matches got separated. (As anybody that has paid attentions should know by now the bptr shooters at the Nationals voted to separate to get away from the July heat that the sillouette match has been moved to)
The only thing that fell thru was NRA Competitions.
