RE: spotting scope
Okay, I am going to a meeting in the morning that just happens to be at Cabela's so I'll give scopes a good looking over. Thanks for all of the tips about what to look for. Believe it or not, I'm learning things. Shoot sharp, Mike

Be sure and check out the Vortex's they have there and ask when they'll be on sale again.

RE: spotting scope
My report, this Cabela's (Lacey, WA) had only two Vortex scopes on display with prices beginning at $399.99. I think those two scopes were basically twins. And I did ask about a sale. The reply was that now sales are scheduled but seeing as how we are in the middle of October maybe we could expect a sale within the next few weeks. Shoot sharp, Mike

I've been a fan of Celestron for decades.
Good place to shop here-

They carry many brands of 'glass'.

RE: spotting scope
I have an Cel. 80mm ED and love it. It's a heavy one-I use a Cabin Tree tripod for when I free stand it.
Otherwise I use a Sinclair bench mount.
