RE: Powder Compression
Hi Klaus:

Glad your club is there for you and that the BPCR activities are growing.

Sad about the loss of the available ranges-------east of you the old soviet military base ranges were still supporting public use----perhaps that too is gone

I hunt on a lease very near Grapetown Texas---------some great german immigrante history there------see the link below

http://www.grapetown.org/gesv.shtml

I kow i have some pics of the current range there just need to dig a bit more

RE: Powder Compression
Morning Dave,
thx a lot for the link, nice to the some members of the Schuetzenverein and reading a lot of german names there.
do you know from where they are in Germany ?
I read the History Chart but there is no hint about it.

seeing on the map that Grapetown it is not far away from San Antonio and the Alamo .. nice history place ....

seems to be former Comanche territory also

one day i will be able to induce my wife for a USA Trip and some sightseeing tours to historical grounds ..

what kind of beast do you hunt for these days ?

Klaus

RE: Powder Compression
Hi Klaus:

Yup Comanche territory for sure------------artifacts are found all over the "Hill Country" of texas.

White Tail deer are the primary game hunted in the hill country-----in some places deer populations approach 1 deer for every 10 acres.

That area of the state was settled primarily by german and czech immigrants--------some of the ranches are still held at least in part by decendents of those immigrants----sadly i don't have data on where the original immigrants lived in Germany

On the Shiloh forums you can see some original letters for purchase of sharps rifles discribed----------several of those letters came from this general area.

I'll dig around a bit mor i believe i have some pics of the Grapetown Range

RE: Powder Compression
Klaus, my connection with Germany is from my Mom's side.
My grandmother was from Baumholder. Last name of Haan.
My Dad's folks came from Sweden, they settled in Iowa as farmers.

Morning Gary,morning Dave,

thx for input!
sounds very interesting from where some folks come over in the 18th or 19th Century.
Read the threads about the Orders on the Shilo Forum, i can make a realationship to your Link know.

Just for you some pics from my side.
first my last Target pics

Bucket: 63 grs KIK FFFg .520 Gov Bullet
Penny Front Sight and R&R Rear

Pig: 68 grs KIK FFFg . 520 Gov Bullet and 68 grs WANO Hunting Powder Nr. 1 same Bullet. Impact are the high Bullet holes on the back following to the right downwards like a beadchain ( complete 10 shots) but the Barrel has been heated up by fast string of shoots. So this part will not be representative for this Powder , my mistake...

because this Pics showing 65 grs KIK Fg and 65grs WANO

but i use this kind of Frontsight

next pics are a view from our 100m Stand. you will see it seems not like an open range, its more a narrow tunnel with his wodden walls on top...Sad

Hi Klaus:

Nice shooting------------i would be hard pressed to pick the best load from those two groups Cool

These videos are of a match shot at the grapetown range---i happened to be leaving the hunting lease and stopped and watched for a bit.

I have some testing to do soon with different COAL trying to tune my silhouette load----------changing bullet jump to rifling engagement in 0.010 inch increments---------one more variable

Hi Dave

THATS GREAT

thx for sharing, having a short view yet at this moment but will enjoy it later with some more quietness.

What i noticed first.. it seem that Grapstown Schützenverein have a much greater Range than we have....

what is your current load ?

Klaus

Remington cases stretched and trimmed to the chamber------------cci br2-----------74 grains swiss 1 1/2----520 grain money bullet at 16/1------------modified emmerts-----------bullet engraves the rifling about 0.005---------0.002 interferance "neck tension"-------------anealed case mouths about 1/2 down the case where the bullet fits

performs right at 1 minute of accuracy to say 500 meters

The rifle and load exceed the capabilities of the shooter
