dumping powder down drop tube
is it more consistant to dump all at once into top of drop tube or to trickle down with a certian count, aka 1 sec, 2 sec, 3 sec, etc, I have done both but do not have enough experience yet to tell the difference.

it seems to me that the "dump" would be more consistant

RE: dumping powder down drop tube
At the top of the drop-tube I have afixed a 17 caliber powder-funnel, in which I just dump my powder in, all in one second, and the funnel meters the flow into the case. It does it the same each and every time.

Kinda like watchin' paint dry (I forget who said that)!

That's my story, and I'm stickin' to it!

I don't even use a drop tube anymore but just dump the powder into the case through a normal loading funnel, place the wad on top and use a compression die to establish the desired wad height.
It's almost impossible to trickle the powder through a drop tube and get the same powder height plus it takes forever and eliminating that step speeds up the loading operation.

I like this so I will give it a try, I weigh each charge and drop through a 30 inch drop tube and the powder never stacks to the same height

What ever you do. Do it in the same amount of time, each time.
What happens after you "just" push and seat a card wad down on the powder?

LG, just after I push down a card wad, I then take the compression die and seat all wads to the same depth, sometimes I feel and hear nothing sometimes I feel/hear powder crushing, its like Steve stated, I can never get the powder to stack to the same height

What is the variance amount when you seat the card wad just push'n abit with a pencil.
FWIW: I compress better part of .400" in the .45-90 using 3F Goex and it is smooth and no crunch'n.

on the average about 0.05, has been as high as 0.08, as low as 0.03

trying to stay as close as possible to zero compression using the Swiss 1.5
