RE: 45 acp powder
I generally opt for 231 in the 45 but have inherited an 8 lb caddy of Imr 700x which burns about like Bullseye I think. Does anyone have experience with it?

I use 700x in trap loads, never tried it in 45 ACP but it should work about the same burn rate as Red Dot which also works in the aCP. bobw

Some years ago, I used a lot of 700X in my .45 ACPs. It works well for standard hardball loads but there is little margin for error as it gets "hot" very quickly. If it were all I could get I would use it again today but better choices, e.g. Bullseye, Red Dot, Unique, are readily available.

RE: 45 acp powder
For years of shooting bullseye pistol matches,
My 45s "lived" and shot well on a diet of Bullseye
and 200 gr SWCs. 3.2gr for softball gun, 3.5 for hardball gun
and 4.7 gr for duplicate impulse of GI Ball ammo for practice
for leg matches.
Most of the other shooters were also using Bullseye in their
45s.
So feel free to use up Bullseye in that 45. Or the 38 if you please.

And Yes, 231 is also excellent for target loads.
Unique works well in full loads.
For my M25, and M625 wheel guns, I had a heavy hunting load using Herco
and 185 gr JHP seated out. 1300+ fps. Or a 452423 SWC(Keith bullet) loaded heavy with Herco.
Back in the '60s, this load was called 45 AR Mag (Auto Rim Mag)

I like 23 gs of Black MZ with a coated bullet in my 45 acp. Runs about 760 fps+.

For social purposes Federal Hydrashock ,45 ACP.

Bullseye 3.7-3.8 grains 185 Hensley & Gibbs # 130 plain or bb. 25 yard rapid fire (wont feed with factory recoil spring.)
Bullseye 4.2 grains 200 grain H&G #68 plain or bb 50 yard slow fire. (COAL critical in straight factory Colt 1911, can fail to feed on rough ramp.) Have not found more accurate loadings in 3 Match .45's for those purposes than these two. Both shoot 25 shot ragged holes at the specified distances my guns from a Ransom Rest.

Been using McCormick SS Mags for years in competition, total reliability so far. Get them from MIDWAY on sale.

Current Lyman Handbook about right for both 231 & Unique. I really like 231 for practice and plinking. Burns clean but has a steep pressure curve, do not exceed recommended maximum charge. Same goes for Bullseye.

BTW, Lyman Moulds work just fine in the old War Horse.

RE: 45 acp powder
I've shot some coated bullets over 231 with some good results, but for social purposes the Remington jhp loads are the ones my gun likes the best.

I use Unique 6.2 grains with 230 gr. FMJ bullets with good results.

Ramshot silhouette, works well in 9mm, 45acp and in 10mm. 5gr of bullseye works well dads 1911 45acp.

RE: 45 acp powder
Ramshot powders have always been very hard to find in this area. I would like to try some but hate to order smokeless powder in large enough quantities to offset the shipping and hazmat. I did get ahold of a can of Big Game with the intent of loading it in the 405, but ended up running the bulk of it thru my 30-30ai.
