Yeah great looking frt sight Stephen. Last week I went to the Denver, Colo Gun Collectors Assoc gunshow held with the SCA show and saw a pile of original Sharps 74's, a lot of the Hartford guns still had this sight on them but very few were un modified. The old boys used files on them pretty hard to thin them narrower and shorter as well as reface the back side. I saw more than a few where they had hacksawed the base frt to rear thru the post and put something in for a blade. One original had hacksaw marks on top the barrel where the guy got to close slotting it for a blade install. The guy who owned that rifle only wanted $8000 for it,jeez . I also noted that the original bases came in atleast 2 different base heights. bobw

Good stuff Bob. 8000.00 for a hacksawed Sharps, that's cheap. It's neat to look at original equipment.

Was some damnned nice 74's there but our Uncle Orville and cousin Dan the marathonman took them home. I on the otherhand was easily amused with 2 original Sharp's Cartridges and some dang good eating Mexican food and a beefsteak rustled no doubt from a wyo rancher. Probably the finest Sharps I saw was a #1 or maybe a #2 Creedmoor or a 99+% New Model 1869 Sporting Rifle all original 44-77 SBN. Some simply breathtaking originals. I could look at originals by the hour. bobw

I went a few years ago Bob, I saw things that I had only seen in books. It's almost overwhelming to see that many nice rifles. Glad you had fun!

Stephen , you know what I'm talking about and then experienced, incredible guns. I don't think I was there over 1 1/2 hrs and my eyes were starting to glaze over. Going to meet Dean there next year.I don't know about window licking but you can sure learn a lot if you are a student of the Sharps. bobw
