Nice picture. Take .001 off that and it will chamber in my gun with an assist tool.

Thats tight Kid---------you gaining any ground ?---------i held 1 1/2 minutes ay 300 yards two weeks ago at the ranch-----papers cutting well so need to ladder the powder as the last tuneup. The right sizing dies made a huge difference for me YMMV

It getting HOT

RE: My way!
rick,
it would be interesting to see a photo with the device not measuring where the joint is.
it almost looks like the patch slightly overlaps, which would make the diameter 0.0015 bigger.
kokomid,
size matters.
0.002 undersize will shoot a good core group with fliers.
0.001 undersize will put more shots in the core group with less fliers.
a tight fit will have next to no fliers, almost all in the core group.
of course you still have to be able to chamber the round, so there is a limit to tightness.
and if you are blowtubing a smaller bullet suits better, but this will not shoot as well as wiping correctly and a fat bullet with thin paper.
best accuracy of all will come with breech seating a really tight bullet with the optimum airgap.
keep safe,
bruce.

RE: My way!
No overlap! Just the coloration of the paper. Strictly a 'target configuration' and not worth a crap for hunting! For hunting I use a patch diameter of no more than .447" and can shoot those until I get tired with no wiping; just blow through the breech and muzzle!!

RE: My way!
Dave, been waiting on a size die. Anything at .4505 is hard to seat but I have found no patch damage on any punched back out. All have shot good for me with 82 gr swiss 1 1/2. Not a hunting bullet with 20/1 and 17/1 alloy. All is basic copy of what Brent D is shooting but shorter bullet for 17 twist bbl. I hope to size bullets dry but may try JPW if I have problems - LB

RE: My way!
Good deal Kid----------you gonna size and wrap or wrap and size Undecided

i tried both and actually ended up doing both-----first size down ---wrap the bullet, lube the patch and final size----when the dies are set the second die only compresses and slicks up the paper-----doesn't effect the bullet at all.

Made a difference for me----ymmv Big Grin

Keep well and stay safe

RE: My way!
Dave, I will size after patching so a change in paper will give the same size. Die maker is guessing at what taper lead in and what width for the actual size contact.

Morning Kid-----------i use standard taper pin reamers----not certain the exact taper-----one thing that is important is to push the patched slug completely thru the parallel sizing section----i made that section about 3/4 inch long------make the pusher diameter right about 0.448/0.449 and tuck the patch well Big Grin

Keep the faith Sir
