Range runs due north, and yes the targets were there, but that mirage yesterday was something else. There were times the animals past the chickens were nothing but a blur thru the spotting scope and you could not get a clear focus on them. Even the cheapest of scopes should of been able to see that mirage.
Folks learn to read and call that mirage, they'll be almost unbeatable on any range any where.

It was the worst mirage that I have seen. It was also not constant as several times it changed directions and may or may not have been consistent with wind direction. There was even a period where the mirage moved left to right at ground level and right to left above about six feet. What the heck are you supposed to do about that?? I am pretty sure on rams a mirage reversal would move the bullet almost three feet. Lots to learn! Hopefully that was just an unusual day and we don't have to fight that severe of a mirage every time we shoot.

What I noticed the most about that mirage , when it would go into a boil is when things would really take off on you. Those reversals with mirage and winds going opposite direction is what we contend with at Raton during the bptr matches, that will throw every thing into a tiz.
It's going to be a tough range to shoot, but that's a good thing there's already enough places for folks to pad their scores. Couple more range flags might help read some of the stuff.
Fantastic place to shoot and looking forward to coming back and breaking out of B class..

One thing I was really thrilled to see, was Carol's turkeys. I've been concerned that maybe that OE and the money bullet weren't quite doing what I wanted, but 4 of those 6 birds were hit square in the head, the other 2 were nailed right at the base of the neck just on the breast, on miss I called as high was actually about 1/3 of the bullet right on the back side of the neck at the junction of the body, it apparently glanced up and looked like a very high miss.. We get her settled into this sight arrangement she has on now, she could be a real contender in this game.
