glitch in breaking the trigger
I sent 25 rounds down range this afternoon

nothing exciting about the target at 300 yards, kinda shatty target

anyways as the trigger broke I was not seeing what I wanted to see

when I am shooting at my best I see the dragon breath flash at the tip of the barrel

today the barrel just seemed that it was jumping up and to the right

with me being a right hand shooter, was my grip to strong

RE: glitch in breaking the trigger
Your consistant grip and butt-stock pressure into the shoulder is always important. Sometimes we don't get comfortable at the bench or on the stix and the results are not what we expected. Keeping in mind that our body-position when on the stix is NOT the same as when at the bench. Be careful about the placing of any rear-sand-bag under the buttstock. Just a few things that always bugged me Tongue!

I suspect that everybody has good and bad days. I think that is why so many people have off and on again accuracy with these rifles. You've really got to get into the groove to make them shoot well.

When I don't see the muzzle flash, usually it's because I'm not relaxed. I've been working on getting better at calling my shots. That really forces me to watch the front sight through th whole process and as a result probably helps me with my follow through.

Not that I'm any more consistent than the next guy, but I figure that if I keep chipping away at my problems that I'll keep improving.

Chris.

I know with only my 4 1/2 years into this type shooting, that if I am seeing the flash I am grouping rather well

I guess I was into shotgun sports for to many years before I picked up my first and only Shiloh Sharps

50 years with a shotgun 4 1/2 with BPCR. its been a frustrating ton of fun the past 4 1/2 years

I am 64 years old, which is rather young, imo

RE: glitch in breaking the trigger
I shoot with both eyes open, even with the scope when it's on the rifle. I always see the orange ball depending at what position the sun is in.
When I worked with my Daughter I watched her close to see what she was doing before she broke the shot. I could see her changing her grip just before the shot broke. Sometimes I would see the shoulder move as the shot broke. This is the most unconscious movement she made. She would say when I asked if she tensed up before breaking the shot and usually the answer was I don't think so. Pushing the shoulder in is the most common unconscious issue shooters have, anticipating the recoil. This will change the grip and stiffening up the shoulder. I could see her grip change by the way her trigger finger tightened up against the wrist. I changed this by having her put het thumb against the side of the stock wrist so she cant grip the stock wrist to throw that shot as she breaks the shot.
I would ask her where did the shot break at and before she would answer I said did it break right? and her answer would be 2-o-clock.
Anticipating the recoil is an unconscious reaction the shooter most generally don't realize doing it but can see it if they break a shot with out having the hammer cocked. Smile

RE: glitch in breaking the trigger
Another possible answer, particularly in this "cooler" weather the shooter has 2-3 or more layers of clothing on. Therefore the butt stock may have effective longer pull. The butt placement may not be felt to place it the same. I'll also share with you that since I tore up my right shoulder last summer and have had Rotator surgery my "learning curve" has hit the restart button. This past month or so I've finally been able to work up to full LR target loads (530 gr 45 cal.). However today usually shooting outside requires heavy coats etc. there have been some variations in results too. So as you see I'm blaming said variation (from deadeye center) on conditions and I'm sticking to it Wink

RE: glitch in breaking the trigger
When the recoil hits your shoulder, your eye will blink, and that is enough time for the flash to be gone.

That is my story and I'm sticking to it.
