Accurate Molds 45-485XR
Out yesterday testing this bullet again. 300 yard rapid fire target reduced to 200. Benched cross sticks. 68.0 grains of OE 1.5, OJ card and 1/8" SPG lube cookie wad column. Bullets seated to 2.095. 8 shots without fouling control. Loaded easy and the fouling remained soft. Sighter shot high at 12 O'clock and made a adjustment to my rear sight. Next 6 went well into the heart/ lung area of a white tail. Last one got pushed out a bit into a middle 9 at 9 due to a missed wind call. Wiped and fired the last 5 rounds and they stayed in the 10 ring. Saved 2 rounds to verify measurements and compression. This load is going to work! Will probably tweek the charge and compression a bit just to see if it can be improved on but for a hunting load shooting dirty it's pretty good!! Very good horizontal but I did string a bit vertical. 25/32" patch height with 3/32" folded under the base (wet patched). With a blow up the breech or down the muzzle I believe I could fire a pretty long string before fouling becomes a problem.

Eric, that is sure showing some promise. Next time out, try wiping the exposed portion of the patch with jojoba oil the day before. Sometimes that tightens the groups up, and adds to keeping the fouling more manageable.

Don, I don't have Jojoba oil would Sperm Whale oil work as well. It might be worth a try. I am liking this bullet and the Accurate bullet for the Big Fifty. I really think both will work for dirty shooting.

If you have a GNC store close by, or some of the health food stores have it. Spermwhale oil is different it stays oily, where jojoba and the old time spermaceti dry to a wax.

I think the key to this bullet is the height of the patch and the seating depth. I am getting no trace of lead with the patch being 22/32 high on the bullet. The 3/32 paper folded over the base is cut very clean. With the over all length set at 2.095 the paper patch clears the fouling at the chamber mouth and the rounds seat with just a hint of interference on the later chambered rounds. I thought I rolled one patch and when extracted it was fine with just some fouling on the front of the patch. I did change from .002 25% to 100% paper and the patch seemed tougher and with less possibility of stretching when I wet patch. With 2.100 brass there were no paper rings observed. I am liking this!

Small senior moment? Had 2.095 in my head for some reason. OAL is 2.905. The load works pretty well at that length. I might increase the lube cookie to 3/16" for a bit more slipperiness in the tube.
