RE: kal long range bullet
as usual kurt, your observations are of great interest, and cannot be denied.
my kal bullet is 1.530" long, and similar to yours on the hey hey thread, other than mine patches to groove at the base.
keep safe,
bruce.

RE: kal long range bullet
Bruce, I probably missed it somewhere, but how far up from the base is the bullet groove size. Additionally, what is the length of the transition to bore size? Thanks.

Regards

RE: kal long range bullet
ironramrod,
the major diameter is 0.225" long parralell.
it then tapers at 7 degrees to minor diameter.
I think the distance it takes to do that is about 0.1"
It sits between 1/10" and 1/8" in the case with the tapered bit touching the leade angle, also 7 degrees.
keep safe,
bruce.

RE: kal long range bullet
i shot this bullet again today at 900 metres (990 yds)
used 9lb baco paper 0.0015 oversize, and quite firm to load.
also 82 as opposed to 81 gns of swiss 1f.
federal large pistol primers which had gone so well with seth cole paper and the lighter charge at 700 metres was quite dismal for vert, but i did not miss the target.
i nearly didn't want to shoot the same load but with cci large pistol primers, but manned up and luckily so, because most shots held 2 moa or better vert.
such an improvement for such a little change.
will have to try 81 gns with the thinner paper and federals to see if vert is as good as it was at 700 with that load.
also the load that shot so well at 700 was with 30/1, and today was 16/1 alloy
with 16/1 confetti revealed that the patch was a bit long to always cut clean to the front.
16/1 also had the patches blow off the bearing surface from the bases, proving that this happens in the long 7 degree transition.
this does not happen with 30/1.
the load chrono'd at 1301 fps ave. from 770 yds to 990 yds required a comeup of 34 moa.
this seems quite a good trajectory.
as usual with this job, cockbird one day feather duster the next, but as long as you learn and keep trying, you will go forward.
i know this bullet is an accurate high b.c.bullet. it just needs to be driven properly, and then read the wind.
keep safe bruce.

not yet don, but enough to show its potential.
it is easy to sit around and theorize, but bullets down barrels takes time and effort.
our range only shoots 900 metres a couple of times a year, so you have to be there to test on those days!
keep safe,
bruce.
