It been quiet here for a while so I’ll see if I can get something going.
My question is about bore wipers.
For the last few years I’ve been using a variety of wipers of every description that I’ve made myself. The one thing they all have in common is the felt plugs from BACO. So my first question is how do you guys clean these felts after using them? I’ve tried several different methods and never seem to get them anywhere near clean, although I’m not sure that even matters.
Next question is BACO’s system. For you guys who are using them, what do you think? They’re rather expensive but the ones I’ve made aren’t that cheap either.
I’m m trying to transition from a 45-70 to a 45-90 for long range. I’m finding that fouling control is more of an issue with the additional 10 grains of powder. (93 grains as opposed to 83. Paper patch loads) With the 70, I ran a bore wiper and a dry patch after the shot. One stroke and done. With the 90, one pass doesn’t always get it. What’s your wiping technique with the BACO system and the longer cartridges?
Finally, who’s using Mpro7? Is it worth the high cost? I’ve only used cutting oil and water so far.
Thanks for any of your thoughts.

Don,

I just got back from a 2 week trip to Glacier Nat Park for my Grand Daughters wedding.
The whole area up in Wyo, MT and parts of SD I drove through is covered with a heavy smoke haze that in spots I could not see the Mountain peaks 6 miles away.
I hope that the fires in your locations are under control. Seen some fires NW Wyo and west MT. lots of black ground up the hills.

I hope you guys out west are getting some moisture this summer.
The Mississippi in my area is 13 feet above normal and still rising.
We been getting hitting hard. Not sure how much rain we emptied out of the gauge since the first of June till now but one day we got 1-7/10" in about 1/2 hr. It was a gray out sort of like a good winter white out blow. The rain gutters were overflowing big time.

All,

Is there a current rule book (2022 or 2023) for BPCR or 22 BPCR?
I have looked online and find old books that say scopes are not allowed.
What I am looking for is if a Lyman jr targetspot is legal? I believe the objective lens is less than 1”.

Cheers,

Just to let you guys know that have a DZ Hepburn rifle.
I talked to Dan to order a .22 and he told me that he had to end his hobby making these fine rifles because of his very busy business keeping up with it.
He said he stopped making these rifles six months ago.
Dan gave me a tour through his shop when I picked up my #3 and I never seen so many CNC machinery in one shop.
This morning I placed an order for parts that might give out with use.
I ordered a complete set of springs and screws, things that will give out in time with heavy use.
I have the firing pins on hand and even those I can make myself if needed.

Back a couple years ago I was shooting at the Baker match during some high temperature and I woke up in the mornings early morning dawn and I could not see the light coming through the roof vent with my right eye. It was completely blacked out till I glanced by it and as the light brightens the black spot turned red. This made me to make the trip to Miles City Mt to look up an Optometrist to see what's going on.
I was told that I had some retina damage and was advised not to shoot anymore till this heals so I pulled out.

Well this happen again last week on Monday at the Q. I shot the .45-2.6 getting sight settings using the tang sight and I only fired 52 shells and later in the afternoon changed to the .38-50 Hepburn with the tang sights for finding the zero's for it. And I must say the little .38-50 held the 805 Buff in the switching breezes just as well as the big .45-2.6 and maybe even better with 14 hits without a miss.
Well Tuesday morning there was that black donut again looking at the window shade with the right eye. There was just a small hole of light in the center and it turned red as the light brightened and disappeared by the early sun rise so I ignored it and desired to shoot the .38 again.
\Well getting back on line when the range was open I could not see the Buffalo through the tang sight, just a dim glimpse of the white spot on it so I moved to the stop sign and the same went for that so I went back to camp and mounted the scope on the Hepburn and went back to the buffalo to get the sight settings. After a couple shots fired I was on it and Carolyn said that was a miss but I said I saw the strobe light flash and she said no it was a miss. I think this is when the left eye might got it's damage because the next morning both eyes had a donut bad enough that at 5 feet from the window shade there was about a 24" black spot I could not see the light through but it also disappeared during the day light but I could not see the smaller targets looking when the sun was in front.
I quit shooting but I wanted to stay and spot for my friend I been shooting with for the past 20 some years but I could not see well enough looking through the spotting scope to see hits. The left eye was better than the right.
This is tough watching shooters on line and not being able to join in so I desired to pull out and see my optometrist at home.
Well on Monday I had him look and he said I'm getting you an appointment with a retina specialist and have him look at this.
He didn't like the redness I'm seeing. Stop shooting till he looks at your eyes.

Right now I lost my center night vision in both eyes with the dim night lights on at a distance.

So you guys be careful as you age shooting these shoulder bumpers.
